Need a new form of birth control, any suggestions??

Hi everyone,

I have had the copper IUD for 2 years now and recently have been having crazy symptoms and issues, and have been thinking about taking the IUD out. Before this I was on the pill for 6 years, and had to get off that due to loss of sex drive, weight gain, mood swings, etc etc, so I would really rather not go back on that again. I am considering trying the diaphragm but I really don't want to get pregnant for a few more years so I'm worried about it not being effective enough. I can't reliably do FAM because I work on a fishing boat and our work schedule is crazy so I would never be able to take temps at the same time every day. My boyfriend and I both hate condoms so that won't work to use every time. I am kind of at a loss as to what other options there are, any suggestions or ideas? I think I would go back on the pill if there is nothing else, but I was wondering what are peoples' experiences with diaphragms or other methods? Thanks!!!

Have you considered the NuvaRing? It's what I'm on and I love it! I know you said you had problems with hormones, and I did too when I was on the pill. Because the dose is so steady with the ring, it doesn't give me the same kinds of problems that the pill did. I did have some problems with headaches at the beginning, but those have subsided and now I feel great on it. I'd still prefer not to be on it at all, but it's definitely a lot better.

Anyway, that's the only one that I have personal experience with. I've heard the FAM is excellent, but just complicated. Good luck with this!

I haven't tried anything but the pill and Nuvaring. I have heard from some girls on here that diaphragms are one of the least effective means of birth control so that may not be the best option for you. There is the depo shot, but I have heard (again, from some other girls on B&B) that it has a lot of side effects. Also if you aren't very careful about getting the next shot in time that you can get pg if you are a few days late. There is the Implanon which is inserted in your arm under the skin. Actually if you go to it gives a list of birth control options available in the US. I'm sorry I'm not more help as far as the experience with different methods, but I didn't want to read and run.
