Very first food?

Hi Ladies,

My LO is almost 4 months old so just starting to think about weaning. I still intend to wait until she is closer to six months old unless she starts showing clear signs of being ready before then but I am just wondering what was the first food you gave your baby? I mean the VERY FIRST food you tried. Did you bother with baby rice?

What was their reaction? Is it better to start with vegetables instead of fruit to avoid developing a sweet tooth? Or will that make weaning harder as babies naturally prefer sweet foods?

Any advice appreciated! Thanks x

I never gave baby rice, I don't see the point in it!
We started with banana! He stole some from his brother and ate it up all by himself, I mashed abit up the next day and he loved it, then we went on to puréed pears, then porridge. I don't know how true the sweet tooth thing is, we started with fruit and my LO will eat anything. He loves savoury, his favourite is cheesy spinach or cauliflower and broc cheese lol! x

Avocado slices were her first food. We moved into other foods pretty fast as we're doing BLW, so she eats what we eat. I just make sure she has a variety of stuff on her tray to pick at and while she loves fruit, she loves her veggies and meat just as much!

Weetabix and readybrek were my sons first foods at 6.5 months, then a few days later it was my homemade paghetti bolognese and soups

We recently started with oatmeal cereal. Our Pedi wanted us to feed rice cereal, but recent studies showed there might be high levels of arsenic in rice, so I freaked and went right to oatmeal!

Applesauce, then avocado, then pears. Skipped rice as it is not good for babies, and he already figured out the spoon.
