overwhelmed by weaning

Hi I'm really struggling with this weaning I feel like I'm right back at the beginning again out of my depth a ng d totally unsure of what I'm doing I can't stop crying baby is fussed then not fussed about eating only seems to want to entertain food when sitting on my lap it takes so long for just a few mouthfuls she arches her back looks around lots so how do you manage to get anything done trying to introduce food or go out I totally feel so overwhelmed I've had a complete melt down today

How old is your baby? That will make a difference to the advice you get.

If a baby isn't hungry then they are not hungry and there is no point wasting time trying to get them to eat more than what they want. You will just stress yourself out. As for going out - feed your baby at your own mealtimes when you would be sitting down either at home or in a cafe for something to eat (perhaps not evening meal though if you and OH prefer to eat late). Then you have more time between your meals to do other things and the day does not become one long mealtime.

If your baby is only 4 months or so then perhaps she is not ready for weaning yet and that is why she is resisting. They don't understand that food is for when you are hungry - to a baby that is what milk is for. Food is just a new experience for them at first. Don't bother trying to feed a baby that is very hungry - just give her breast or bottle first.

I strongly recommend you read the "baby led weaning" book by Gill Rapley. Her approach is very very stress free.

I found weaning so stressful too!
If she wants to eat food from your plate then it might be worth trying the BLW approach like the PP recommended, where she can eat 'normal' food rather than purees and spoon feeding. I found the BLW book really helpful. x

Sounds like your baby would be better suited to the baby-led weaning approach. You basically skip the purée stage and let baby feed themselves using 'finger foods'.
