Blw baby dropping down percentile

Just had lo weighed today and she has dropped down from 75th to 50th percentile. She has just got over a chest infection so could be that but Hv has said I need to get more calorific food into her. She has 3 6oz bottles, she recently dropped the mid morning bottle. The Hv said that although she is blw I should mash a little a spoon feed it to her. I'm not comfortable with this suggestion at all. I let my lo eat what she wants, plus she won't even entertain the idea of me feeding her. Hv also said that I need to begin to introduce a spoon but she does already have one- I give her breakfast and yogurt on spoons. These are the only things lo will tolerate. My question is does anyone know how I can increase my lo calorie intake but let her still be in control?

I try not to worry about percentiles. As long as your baby is happy and healthy and drinking and eating she is fine. It's normal to fluctuate on weight gain.
My lo went through a phase of barely eating a thing and his weight went down, i was concerned he was getting thin, but he was just teething really bad. His weight has come back up and his appetite is great now.
Is your lo over one? You could try peanut butter on toast? My lo loves that.

If she's been ill, I would disregard what the HV said about increasing calorie intake. If she's still on the 50th centile, it's not like she's teeny and she will probably gain it back gradually anyway if that's the size she's destined to be. If her body needs it and you're doing BLW, she will ask for what she needs/take it for herself. That's really what BLW is about - trusting your child to choose what she needs.

Thank you that is how I feel. I don't want to pressure my lo to eat and make the whole experience unenjoyable. I think I'm going to carry on the way we have been. When I see the Hv again in 3 weeks time for her development appointment I'm going to stick to my guns and not feel pressured to 'up her intake'. Thank you again x

Is she formula or breastfed? It's normal for breastfed babies to drop percentiles between 4 and 9 months. Second question: What was your growth pattern like as a baby? How about the baby's father? Are you or the baby's father tall? If you're both average or shorter, perhaps your baby isn't meant to be tall either and is working her way to average or lower. Dropping percentiles isn't always a bad thing. Is she still growing, happy, and healthy?

I also agree with this.

My LO dropped from the 98th to the 50th after being ill at 4-5 months old and the HV said as long as once she's well she does not drop any more its fine.

She was big born on the 98th percentile 9lb 12oz. She is formula feed and dictates how much she wants (recently dropped the mid morning bottle herself). Both me and my dh are average height, if anything my dh is peite for a man. My older daughter was also large born 9lb 6oz but only dropped down to 91st percentile. I think I'm comparing them too much. She a very happy girl and really enjoys eating at the table with us. That's what I love about blw and want to continue.
