'real' food at 5 months??

I want to do blw but archie is only 5 months

He loves taking stuff off my plate and sucking on it... today a bit of chip came off in his mouth and he tried to swallow it, then eventually choked it up and it came out.

Should i let him do this or is it too dangerous???? Does anyone else let there 5month old eat chunky real food rather than purrees??

I let Aisling have finger foods from 5 months and a week. It was mainly to let her practice BLW so that when she hit 6 months she'd be ready to chew and swallow etc. We were a little shocked to see her bite off a bit of an apple, chew it and swallow it the first time we gave her anything! But we figured she would swallow if she wasn't ready so let her have bits and pieces every now and then.

For the most part she probably won't swallow anything but it'll let her develop her skills for BLW.
