Sid is 8 and a half months and this is his typical daily intake...

7am: 4-6ozs milk
8am: Porridge mixed with 4ozs milk
10am: sometimes some cheerios or half a banana
12pm: Half a sandwich with dairylea and a beaker of water
1 or 2pm: 4-6ozs milk
5pm: Either 4 cubes of homemade food like chicken casserole or sometimes a jar for 7+ months
8pm: 4-6ozs milk

He sometimes has an extra bottle and sometimes has a few snacks, depends on where we are and what we're doing!

x

On average 9oz of milk Breast or formula contains 200 calories, i was told babies over 6 months need about a 1000 calories a day to maintain their weight so if you could squeeze an extra milk feed in it might help her gain weight as the jars of baby food only contain about 80 calories if she had 5 9oz feeds =1000 calories and then her solids as well she will be on about 1200 calories which should help her gain weight if after a couple of weeks she is still not gaining i would take her to get checked. Hope this helps.

I have been trying to get another breastfeed in, i try her quite often on the breast but she'll rarely take it, the only feeds where i know she has a good feed is the first one in the morning and the one before bed. I try about another 4/5 during the day, inbetween food or right after it but usually she will only take about 2, and even then the feeds aren't very long! So i feel as if i should offer a feed before i give any solids? x

sounds to me like you are giving her the right amount of food hun! Connah doesnt always eat that much and he is nearly 1! lol

Try good fatty things like cheeses, yoghurts etc, full fat milk on breakfasts too.

If your worried though speak to the doc as it could be something unrelated to the amount of food she eats xx

Sorry to buck the trend, but I think its less than H is taking.

A good amount of the finger food ends up in the bib - but I think what goes down adds up to a bit more than B is taking.

She has ~7 milk feeds (one in the morning is usually a long 45 min session)
Breakfast w/ Dada: Toast with fruit spread, half a banana (I only just found out she's up to a half!), another bit of fruit like melon, yogurt (sometimes split between 1st & 2nd breakfast)
2nd Breakfast w/ me: Porridge w/ 2-3 oz of BM, maybe the rest of a yogurt, and a 1/4 of toast with phili or dairylea, 2-3 pieces of fruit - pear/mandarins/peaches/strawberries
Lunch: 1/4 - 1/2 sandwich - usually hummus or cheese/veg spread, cucumber, 2 cherry toms, 2-4 organix snacks, 1/2-1 yogurt
Dinner: Handful of pasta quills, courgette wedges or asparagus, carrot (not so much goes down), brocoli, rest of yogurt - sometimes I add in a bit of a plum pot of food if she's struggling to get herself fed with hard or new food - maybe 1/3.

I've been worried she's not taking enough food because she's still taking so much milk :S

ETA: Bedtime milk is EBM and she takes 7oz... no idea if thats lots or normal.

Well, since most of a baby's nutrition comes from milk at this stage, I have heard that you should give milk first and solids after since they are just practicing with the solid food. We did the opposite to introduce Hudson to food, and planned on going back, but he is perfectly happy to eat his solids first and have a nice big bottle after! I would try that and see if that helps.

Yes adding formula to her food will add some extra calories also you could add cows milk (full fat) to some of her foods as well, mash potato with milk or cream and butter is a good way to get some extra calories as its so bland you can mix it into some of her powdered food and she won't even notice.

Yeah that does sound like more! Though i'm not too worried about that as H is a lot bigger than B so guess it makes sense she would eat more :-/
