Consistency/texture of purees at 6 months?

Anna has been having home-made purees for a couple weeks now.

We started with it really runny/smooth at first but are now getting thicker.

Last nights was cheesy broccoli and potato - quite thick- not running off the spoon-more like blobbing off - and it was not smooth - there was little bits of cheese in it - it was actually very tasty and Anna ate the lot!

She also had weetabix and blueberries - texture of thick paste and not watery at all.

Is this ok or should it still be smooth and runnier?

It's ok hun. I never prepared runny puress when we started weaning at 20 wks as Omar is suffering frm reflux. Give it some time then leave some lumps in her purees or start introducing finger food. The earlier u start with lumps the faster she learns how to chew. I started with fork mashing at 6.5 mnths. At 7 mnths Omar started to have what we'r having without mashing at all.

Oh, also....

I am planning to do most things home-made, but this morning I tried a free sample of cow&gate fruity porridge.

Its a just add water cereal. I did not make it to instructions - I poured some of the cereal into a bowl, added some pureed peach (which was quite watery) and then water to make the consistency I wanted - hope thats ok!! She scoffed the lot.

It's ok hun as long as it mixes well. U can add whatever u want to porridge & cereals. I never followed the boxes instructions when preparing them. I keep mixing stuff as Omar hates plain porrdige & cereals.

I've just bought some of the cow and gate porridge and it says mix with water! I thought you would mix it with formula or Breast milk. Do you think you could still mix it with milk instead of water? X

Hey,

Thats really good! We did the same thing with Lucas, very smooth purees to start with but now he has food which is textured/some small lumps.

Its good to get them used to lumpier food ASAP. After 2 weeks Lucas has already managed to deal with toast, a mashed not blended spag bol, and is having finger foods.

I personally think once the food is no longer mush they find it alot more interesting and start to enjoy it more

xx

I am sure it will be fine - I have done that before and think I will continue to do so as Anna is dropping her milk feeds which is not ideal as she is has always taken very little anyway! I just put some porridge in a bowl, add some fruit that I have pureed and then put in milk/water to what suits
