Does she scream because of excitement? or crying type of screaming as if she's irritated? Omar is soo noisy when he eats, & he shouts for the spoon if he likes what he's eating, he also babbles & talks with his food, & he talks to everyone on the table while eating. I spoon feed him but only real food & with the family. But if he's not interested he strains in anger & babbles as if he's swearing & tries to escape his chair.

I'm not sure if this helps xx

Its a frustration or an in pain or something like that cry. She's not happy about it and flails her arms around.

I've tried offering her water, letting her eat on my knee, giving her mush (she wont take the spoon without "helping" though!)

Maybe she's not interested yet? Omar can go to the extend of gagging & throwing up if he doesnt want to eat. We started proper weaning at 6.5 mnths & he used to eat 2-3 baby spoons before starting to shout & he won't stop until we take him out of his chair. He only started to eat decent amounts without fuzzing at around 8 mnths, & until now he skips meals. He has reflux & he knows gagging & throwing up freaks me, so he uses gagging as an excuse to escape eating even if there is no food in his mouth.

If she's ok to eat for 10 mins, u can just let her stop eating & let her go back to playing when she starts fuzzing & screaming. I dont think she's hurt or in pain, I guess she's just getting bored xx

Shes still hungry though as she'll very often take to the breast straight after and it's strange that she's suddenly gone from eating like a ganet to barely eating.

I'll try taking her out to play for a while and see what that does.

If she's taking enough BM there is no need to stress alot about solids esp if u'r doing BLW. I spoon feed, but I stop if he's not interested or distracted & i dont really stress about quantities, the 1st year is for exploring new tastes & textures, many BLWers dont start to eat before they'r 7 or 8 mnths & sometimes later which is normal, follow her lead hun & she will start eating more when she's ready xx

Thanks for this,
The problem I have is we did follow her lead, we started early cos BM wasn't doing it for her and now she's going backwards again!! lol,
Was hoping she'd settle down instead of confusing me some more!!!!

Thanks though really

My little boy went through a phase of doing this - lasted a couple of weeks. He would have a complete meltdown right in the middle of eating. I never really worked out what it was and it stopped after a while. I reckon it was frustation - He had realised that food tasted good but didn't have the skills to eat enough of it yet.

Alternatively could be teething and a sore mouth? Or if she has teeth could she be biting her fingers?

Im sure it will only last a short while. I used to take him out the highchair and sit him on my lap instead and then just try again next mealtime.

She ate breakfast fine this morning no meltdowns or anything.

I THINK it's overtiredness which is why she's ok eating breakfast. So i've made a point of getting her a decent nap this afternoon ready for lunch and we'll see what she makes of that.
