Some q's from a clueless mummy :)

Summer's my first, I have NO clue what I'm doing with weaning and have some questions.

Started giving her some baby rice around 18 -19 weeks to settle her feeds a bit before bed. She loved it, dived for the spoon and cannot get enough of it.

Tried the Banana Porridge stuff, she didn't like that, fair enough. She was staying at my mum's last night and she gave her a jar of spag bol. I was fine with the fact it was spag bol but I don't want her getting jars as I believe I read somewhere they are full of crap.

Am I right? Fair enough my mum didn't know my plan is to puree everything and freeze it.

Does it have to be specific things that I blend? Or can I blend what we eat. In case it makes a difference I make home cooked food such as Cottage Pie, Spag Bol, Mince and Tatties, Steak Pies. Lots of veg in everything. No added salt etc.

Please try to avoid telling me not to wean her yet, I, as her mummy feel like she is ready so will go with it slowly but surely

Any tips? Advice? Seriously, I have NO idea where to start

Thank you

Can't tell you much about jars I'm afraid as I'm BLW, but i wouldn't give meat/fish before 6 months and gluten of course so no pastry etc. But give fruit and veg freely, as soon as he is 6 months he will be able to share all your meals.

yeah i would try to stick with fruit and vege before 6 months , just cook it up n puree it , when you are making meals then so long as the salt content is ok ( watch gravy powder and stock for salt ) then its fine to blend it up for your LO you might have to loosen it with some water or some of your LO's formula/expressed breastmilk, to get it to a smooth blend though

I'm on my 2nd week of weaning. Last week was just baby rice, building up the amount each day. This week have started on carrot puree. I have made a batch and frozen into ice cube tray, then these have gone into a container in the freezer. Today have made a batch of butternut squash. I am going to make batches of different veg, will get some sweet potato and parsnip when I pop to the shops later. I intend to feed her the same for 3/4 days to a) make sure she likes it and b) to check she has no reactions to them. Then I can start combining the cubes to make different 'cocktails' of veg!
Then I intend to move onto other veg and fruit, so will make pear and apple puree, banana.

Then after that I don't know where I'm going really. Just taking it a couple of weeks at a time.

spag bol either in a jar or otherwise is a bit much IMO seeing as your baby is only 4 months. pasta has gluten so should be avoided til 6 months and meat should be introduced at 6 months. stick to fruit and veg for now IMO. my LO has been weaning for about 3 weeks and has porridge, baby rice, sweet potato, carrot, parsnip, butternut squash, apple, plum, pear purees.
