Shop bought purees

At the minute I am making my own purees for LO but am finding it a bit time consuming. I was thinking of maybe combining making my own and giving shop bought baby food. I have given him an Ellas Kitchen pouch as they dont have any rubbish in. Does anyone know if there are any other brands that make baby food with no rubbish and actually taste nice? Thanks. xx

Hipp organic r good but Omar hated them. He didnt like any baby food. Also organix fruit pots r made or pure fruits with no added sugar.

I think i've pretty much tried my LO on all brands! My rule is to read the label and if it's all natural ingredients (like most seem to be) then it's all good but if it reads like a chemistry lesson stay well away!

I agree, just look on the ingredients list, and the more things you don't recognise, the worse it probably is.

Bear in mind though, I bought a Heinz powdered dinner for my LO, and on the front of the pack it says "no preservatives"; I read the ingredients list out loud to my OH (a qualified chef), and he pointed out that maltodextrin (one of the ingredients) was in fact an artificial sugar and preservative! So basically, they're lying

I have tried a couple of jars on my LO, because I'm going back to the UK to visit my family for 3 weeks, but will be moving from place to place, so can't make purees easily, so will need to feed her jars for the entire trip. I figured it was best to find a few that she liked, then ask my mum to buy them in before we arrive, but she hasn't liked any of them!

Aren't all baby foods supposed to be preservative free? Or is that just law in Canada?
Puree jars here are literally just the food and water. Nothing else.

Any of the Organix range. Were BLW but my LO loves the organic fruit pots still plus there crisps they do. No added rubbish, salt, preservatives anything and they are on offer in tescos the fruit pots are. They are 3 packs for £4.00 and you get 4 in a pack x

i make all my baby food at home....
this might be a really thick question... but how can ready made baby food not have 'rubbish' added to it if it doesnt go off after a couple of days??

FRESH Pureed fruit and veg would never stay fresh in a jar on a shop shelf for that long!!

i dont get it.

Because it's stored in jars. You put your veg or whatever into a jar or can and heat it to a very high temperature to kill any nasties. This drives air out of the jar and as the food cools a vacuum seal is formed. This vacuum seal prevents any nasties and air getting back into the food and it can be then stored unopened for a long time without the need for any preservatives. This is how things are preserved in jars and tins without any need to add preservatives and also why all jars/tins have to be eaten quickly once opened as they are exposed to the air and then act like fresh food. Jarred and tinned food is just as fresh as freshly made food once opened; it's just been naturally preserved before it gets to us. The same principle apply to pouches like ellas kitchen, plum etc; their pouches create an airtight vacuum so therefore no need for preservatives. Packeted food (like Heinz dinners) are not stored in an air tight environment so would need some type of preservative
