Cups, beakers and sippies

Hi ladies

I am offering Erin a sippy cup at lunch and tea times, but she doesn't seem interested. If she does pick it up, she does so one-handed and tries to drink from it I guess she is copying me! Its too heavy so it doesn't work and I have to hold the other handle.

Anyone have any ideas on what may help, work better? I guess going to nursery and seeing the other children do it will help, but I wanted her using one before she went (in 1 week!!!) - doubtfull!

It just has water in it atm - should I try a bit of milk it in, so it's familar?

Thanks

I use a doidy cup for Nim, or a sippy with a silocone spout (she like chewing on it!)
Personally I do 1 part prune juice to 10 parts water (ish!) it helps madams constipation and she takes it better
Or cooled chamomile tea

She also holds one handed (or not at all and just opens her mouth for me to pour it in ) and its a slow process .... but shes getting better

i've got various cups, the silicone ones are no good because she just chews and doesn't drink. i've got a tommee tippee free-flow one with a plastic spout that she's getting the hang of slowly but i have to hold it for her.

but to be honest she drinks the best when i hold a normal cup for her. she can't do it herself obviously but i know she's definitely getting some water!

i do occasionally give her little bits of juice but i try to stick to water - theory being it'll be water she'll get at nursery so i don't want her to be demanding juice!

Stick at it and just show her how to use 2 hands, she will get the hang of it. My lo did the same for a while and now she drinks from it fab! I personally would just leave water in it and not milk

We use the tommy tippy free-flow cup, and started offering water once we started BLW at 6 months. At 10 months he's just got the hang of using two hands, but he still needs me to tip it up...its been a slllloooooow process! Before that he just used one hand and tried to wildly "fling" it into his mouth, or he'd just hold it upside down and watch the water pouring on to the floor We've only ever given him water in his cup, but I dont see a problem in putting milk in it if you think it'll encourage your LO to drink from it more. I've been very suprised by how much effort has needed to go into teaching him to drink from a cup...it's a steep learning curve!

Have you considered a doidy cup? You're LO could hold it then as it's got handles

i don't really understand them - do they not just pour it all over themselves?

We're still teaching our LO how to use it, so we just keep a firm grip on the base and let him help as much as he wants. At the moment we make sure he's not over a carpet while he uses it, but I'm hoping he'll get the hang of it properly soon

My LO went straight onto a doidy cup, she drinks from it fine but can't hold and tip it yet. The only problem is she's recently started to refuse it and sticks her fingers in the water instead. I've got one of the free flow beakers to try her with but who knows if she'll know what to do with a spout!

Emily will only drink from her sippy cup without the lid on! So I guess we might be better off with a doidy cup (now that I've Googled it to find out what it is!)

It's my DH's fault as he's always held his glass to her mouth since she was really little. If I'm drinking water then I'll let her drink from my glass which she does without too much spillage. I really wish she'd drink from her sippy cup with the lid on as she wants to hold it herself but we end up with too much water everywhere if I let her!
