| Finger food ideas
My 10 month old is totally obsessed with feeding herself, sometimes she won't take baby food at all and screams until she gets some of what we are eating. The problem is that most things aren't very easy for her to feed herself, not terribly healthy, or she doesn't like them.
So far her favorites are:
puffs and yogurt bites (I don't like how sweet they are)
scrambled eggs
shredded cheese or cottage cheese
bananas and avocados (rolled in rice flour, otherwise they are too slippery)
What hasn't worked:
strawberries or kiwis (too sour)
potatoes (too squishy, she can't pick them up)
peas (she gags on them, or throws them on the floor)
canned peaches or pears (she throws them on the floor)
This morning she was feeding herself some sauteed, chopped spinach so I'm really excited to have found a vegetable she can self-feed.
But the main issues are her pincher grasp isn't very good yet, she seems to gag a lot and that scares me with some of the harder foods (like cooked carrots), but anything that is very soft just gets mooshed and she can't pinch that either.
I figure she'll get better at picking things up and eating soon, but it is just frustrating for both of us right now! Does anyone have any other ideas for foods that might work?
