When do they actually eat stuff on BLW?

We started just before 6 months, and she's now 7 and a half months. She still doesn't really swallow anything yet and it's so depressing seeing all the food as mush on the floor and feels really wasteful.

When did your baby start to actually eat as opposed to just lick, suck and make a mess ?

Ironically right around 7.5 months! We started at 5.5 months, straight into all meals.

Hope you get progress soon!

xXx

We started at 6mths and he's only just started swallowing in the last week or so. It's still just as messy though - especially when offering saag paneer and dahl!

I did the BLW with my first son and im so glad we did, he is so great with hsi food and will eat anything. It takes time as its also about exploring, tasting, and playing with it as much as it is eating. You will soon notice the difference and its worth it

we started at 6 months and he's 7 months tomorrow, he's definitely been eating some from the start, evidenced in his nappy. very small amounts though, I think off it as messy play and as I've not had to buy him any special food its not too wasteful.

I started my LO at 5 and a half months and he's only just started eating small amounts at 7 and a half months. There is still a lot of mess everywhere!!

I know what you mean about seeing all the waste, but hang on in there cos when they get the hang of it, it will be brilliant for them and us!

My LO didn't eat much until much later - we started at about 6 months but he was nearly one when we moved him from EBM during the day to cows milk - and only then did he really seem to start taking food serisouly and swallowing a lot more. Even now (13 months) he still chews up a lot of stuff and spits it out.

Before 1yr as long as they are a decent weight and healthy I don't think it matters as most of their nutritional requirements are still fulfilled by milk.

The saying is "food before one is just for fun" so I wouldn't worry about it. I know the waste is annoying but it's not wasted if your child is enjoying themselves and building a positive relationship with food which will last them the rest of their life!

Hehe, yep it was very messy! he's started to be able to pick up handfuls of food and basically stuff in the vicinity of his mouth so this worked quite well. Both recipes from BLW cookbook, we couldn't do without it : I'll try to post a photo...

Oh, and he's def swallowing stuff as I've had to start scraping the nappies before washing them
