Weaning Help in general and cmpi meal/snack ideas

Hiya

My lo has cmpi and reflux so under supervision of dietician and paediatrician we started weaning at 4 months so she has been on purees for almost 2 months and loves her food. She has fruit or porridge on a morning and vegetables on an afternoon or evening. I have given her some mashed banana mixed with her nutramigen aa milk so it was quite easy for her to swallow. I also tried her with some mashed potato and carrot mixed with nutramigen and vitalite a few days ago and she was gagging/choking on the tiny lumps even though I tried to mash them all out and if she wasnt choking on them she would spit them out. Lol. She has gummed on cucumber and apple sticks and this is as far as we got.

What I am wanting help on is how do I introduce lumps, do they have to choke to learn?!!! Also any meal/snack ideas for babies with cmpi would be great (she isnt allowed milk, lactose and egg).

Thanks!!!

xx

My LO wouldn't eat finger foods till 7 months when we found that she would eat small fingers of toast with fruit puree spread on it. After a few weeks she started taking fingers of fruit and steamed veg and that was when she started to enjoy lumpy foods. She even bites bits off and chews now, despite only having one tooth!

Livvy is a CMPI baby too so I give her toast, pita breads tortillas and fruit n veg for finger foods and for her main meals I make a lot of casseroles, curry and hotpot type purees.

I adapt recipes where milk products are needed butter is replaced with sunflower spread, milk with formula or coconut milk, if something needs a cheese sauce, I'll make it tomato based instead.

Thanks hun! So maybe keep her on purees for now then would you say? I do mash banana and mix her nutramigen in and also I did mash potato with her milk and also vitalite spread which is what me and hubby have used for years anyway and fab it is dairy free

I make me and hubby sausage casserole (lo obviously cant have sausage), chicken casserole, curry, chicken dinners etc. I use the slow cooker a lot. Lol. I have brought some tuna and sardines etc as per the guide from the dietician which I am going to try to mash/puree for lo. I have also given her sugar free jelly today which she is allowed also and I love it

If anyone has recipes for casseroles etc for lo with cmpi that would be fab!!

xx

I used (and still do) the Annabel Karmel recipes with LO - she does tend to like cheese and milk in her recipes, but I can substitute those when needed, but her beef casserole is a big hit with LO.. and DH has just demanded that I make it up in larger quantities so he can have some too!

When it came to introducing lumps, I blitzed half of the food I'd made in the processor, then mashed the rest with a potato masher and then mixed it all up.. I'm not sure how others do it but we had no choking

I'm still struggling with snacks although LO is tolerating soya yoghurts now so that's a huge help

PM me if you want the recipe!

The plain are obviously healthiest, but Alpro do a smooth and a 'lumpy' version... My LO prefers the smooth!

All sounds good, just start on the finger foods then the lumps should follow. I've just bought some baby pasta for LO, haven't tried yet but I reckon it should be good as its really small lumps and will be pretty soft.

As for recipes, I actually started a thread a couple of weeks ago called share your babyfood recipes, its fallen off the front page now but i'll dig it out for you. All the ones i've posted are suitable for CMPI babies. x

Well my LO loves pieces of bread or toast cut into fingers (like how you would cut them if you were going to dip them into a boiled egg, or maybe just a little bit wider)

Also, anything that turns to mush in the mouth is great like melon, banana, mango, steamed Apple, steamed carrot, potato, sweet potato, that kind of thing x
