Another Housing benefit Q

I am desperate to move out from my moms house and have used a online calculator to see how much Housing benefit I can claim and I will be able to pay my bills with the rest of my wages if some of the rent is paid for only thing is I would never be able to afford the full rent until I get the housing benefit. So would I have to stay at home and save for a few months to pay the full rent untill the housing benefit comes through or could I move into the new apartment and then pay the months I missed when the housing benefit gets backdated, If I tell the land lord I will definately be getting the rent paid for soon? How long does it normally take for Housing benefit to sort the claim out? Because im guessing I wouldnt get it while im waiting at moms ready to move out which would be easier but things never are.
Thanks in advance

Also does anyone know of any other online benefit calculators just so I can check the one I used was right?

My houseing benefit claim took about 4 weeks to come through but they back dated me 3 months. You could ask the landlord if u could do this or could u borrow the money for the first few months rent from someone then pay them back when you get HB thru? if ur in rent arrears when HB is claimed they send it straight to landlord anyways. You would have to move out before you claimed cos u cant claim for a house ur not currently in.

The hardest thing is finding a landlord who accepts HB tenants cos me and oh r on have HB and have a full grantor (sp?) but still struggling to get xomewhere to live.

The most accurate will be the one on your local councils website.

Have you tried local housing associations? They'd be lots more understanding about the HB situation and the rent should be more reasonable than private renting x

jeez dont talk about housing benefit, its ridiculous over here, my housing benefit went up 3 months ago, but they are still only paying my landlord the previous lower amount, which means Im having to pay her double what I should be until it gets sorted, god knows wen that'll be! One minute Im not on their system, next I owe them money! Its a farce.

It's better to wait house council accomm I think, even if it takes awhile, at least then if u get housin benefit, 90% of it should be paid, as opposed to the ridiculous amount 'the law says u need to live on'
