Redundancy Pay & Child Tax Credits

Hi!

I'm currently on maternity leave & i've been made redundant, i wont have a job to go back to, which suits me fine! I'll be getting redundancy pay to the tune of about 5/6 grand.

I currently claim child tax credits, will the redundancy pay affect this? I mean, i know i'll have to tell them i've been made redundant, which is fine, i'm not one for claiming what i'm not entitled to, but i'm worried that they'll see it as i've given them a false estimate of my earnings. Technically i have earnt the money, and i don't think it's taxible. I'm not really sure what i'm asking, i'm just worriedly waffling.

Thanks for any experience with this/input.
