Worried about taking time off

I have currently been employed by my local coop for a few weeks.
I haven't done many shifts, bu since yesterday I've been feeling very ill, with very painful glands, nausea etc. My doc is sending me for blood tests on monday because my glands have been up for a while
I feel really cheeky calling up and asking for this afternoon off! I'm supposed to start at 2 - should I just grin and bear it? Or suck it up and call in sick? I don't want them to think I'm cheeky and messing them around...

To be fair I was going to comment but by the time I had read your original post I figured you would have made your decision already.

I was going to say I think you should phone in sick as you are honestly sick and these things do happen. Perhaps if you feel terrible for leaving them in the lurch you could ask to work a different shift to make up for it? Your employers will most likely be grateful for the offer and at least make them realise you do care about your job.
