After advice re child tax credits

Hi, just after a bit of advice regarding child tax credits form, i rang up for a form in feb, had baby 30th jan, i started my maternity leave 23/12/11, the lady on the phone told me that from then until 5th april is 14 weeks, so to take 1400 off my earning so would be roughly 12000, then when we get the renewal form to take the remainder of my mat leave off then? is this right to have put on the form even though it asked for earnings from 2010-2011? im confused now and worry easily, whether it was correct to take off the 1400 on this form?
thanks in advance
