Flexible working stupid system

I currently do flexible working and work 34 hours over 4 days so work longer days.

I put in a request to do 27 hours over 3 days and it was refused. However someone else is due to come back from mat leave soon and has had 29.5 hours over 4 days approved.

I don't understand the logic at all. My request was only a couple of hours less but because it was over 3 days it was declined they reckon I need to be in the office 4 days a week but if I am doing almost 4 days worth of hours what difference does it make.

I don't find flexible working very flexible in practice!!!

Sorry just so pissed off. Been looking for a part time job but they would be a big step down the pay scale for me plus the pay cut for part time hours it would hardly cover the nursery fees. I feel trapped working full time when I want to be a SAHM.

I agree its pishy. I had my PT trial meeting last week and they mentioned that me being in 3 days isn't always working as they realise that they do need someone there every day.......so have asked me to consider half days mon & Tues and full weds - fri, which I am not sure about as that means I have to get LO by 1pm and then she sleeps for an hour then not much time to really DO anything.

So I think its more the days than the hours that your work are having an issue with. As stuff might get missed?
