hi everyone, whats this all about, kicking and screaming and trying to smack me,or dad?has just started out of no-where,anyone else having the same?he's only at nursery one pm pw,so surely cant pick up it from there can he?or is it normal tantrums for the dreaded 2's approaching?
any tips on how to handle it please, would be greatly appreciated!

Completely normal behavior. At this age its really frustrating for children as they cannot communicate their emotions wants or needs as well as their mind knows them.

He will not be picking it up from nursery, its just a phase that many of them go through.

In terms of handling this behavior you must be firm, go down to his level and tell him 'NO, you do not smack /kick/pinch Mummy' if he continues then move him away from you - he may kick right off into a complete tantrum but do not relent! Ignore him is he plays up and when he is calm tell him to say sorry and give you a cuddle.
If it continues you can use time out and sit him out for a minute - welcome to the terrible 2's!

thank you for the advice, sounds like you know what your talking about, and makes good sense to me...it seems to be mainly when i lay him down to have his nappy changed,so i guess i finish doing the nappy, then leave him to one side...bless him ,he doesnt know how to say sorry yet,but i guess he will get the meaning...

The 'sorry' can come with a gesture not always a word. Saying 'give mummy a cuddle (holding out your arms) because smacking hurts (rub your arm frown and say ouch)
Communication at his age is very much about action as opposed to him speaking.

One other point is not to get into a responsive stage with this behavior - a firm No Thank you and moving away will prob be enough.

Good luck xx

I'm getting this from Adam at the moment. He'll run up at the back of me and slap the back of my legs then giggle :haha:,I'm not sure if he's playing or not but I'm trying to to do what the previous poster has said and I'm not having much success I'm not sure how much he understands at 18 months old!:nope:

I am getting this too them smacking me I can cope with but each other is a bit hard we have started time outs with Fynn as he is a lot stronger willed than Sam - the boys don't go to nursery so I assumed it's a phase xxx

Alfie's going through this phase too, he mainly hits me in the face or pulls my hair and he does the same to Evie if she annoys him! I think its just a phase, Evie went through it when she was about his age.
