    Hey guys

Got my referral letter last night - was a bit gutted as it's so far away - 22nd Jan '09. It's also with a fertility nurse.

Can anyone tell me what will happen as they've said DH doesn't need to go?

Does anyone know at what point you get on the IVF waiting list? We have had tests done to establish DH has very low count so will they need to do further tests BEFORE they put us on the waiting list?

I know it's stupid but all i could think was that my first appt was end of Jan and there was little chance of me getting a 2009 baby what with waiting lists. Just made me feel a bit sad :sad2:

    Thanks :hugs:

Sorry I can't be much help hun. We got referred to IVF Wales in September and have been told that the wait is 6-8 months for the first appointment.
Although there's not much chance of a 2009 baby there is a good chance of a 2009 :bfp:

    Good luck with everything.

Thanks guys - i read the letter properly this morning (was too angry last night) and basically i see the nurse in 3 months and the doctor 2 months after that - so prob end of March to see the doctor. Not sure what the age cut off is for NHS either?

I rang the clinic to confirm my appt but they couldn't tell me when we would be put on the waiting list - she said the nurse could advise us in 3 months :hugs:

AGGHHH - this makes me so mad.
why is the NHS so messed up with red tape - I have been attending the Mr Tayob gynae clinic for over a year and finally actually got to see Mr Tayob yesterday - before that I have just had registrars.
Makes you want to stop paying your 40% tax - I could afford private in no time if I did that.

Hope the time to Jan goes speedy for you hun and that the nurse is able to answer your questions - and that you get your treatment and :bfp:in 2009.

    BX x :hugs::hugs:

Have slapped myself round the chops and feeling a bit more positive now!

Spoke to the clinic again and they put me through to a lovely lady who explained that we wouldn't be put on the waiting list until we had seen the doctor which will be in 5 months time (unless we get a cancellation). I asked her what the waiting time was and she explained that it used to 2 years BUT there are huge changes afoot with the PCTS and that it was going to drop dramatically so we should just 'hold on in there' and it would all be okay.

    She was really nice :hugs:

NHS waiting lists suck (i know ive been there) but hang in there.
Keep yourself busy, arrange something every couple weeks to look forward to. I found that helped me get through the months waiting.

I have a cunning trick with waiting lists........
Sometimes it works a treat, and sometimes it fails! But I always call the clinic/doctor/secretary and tell them that I could do an appointment at short notice, so if they have any cancellations, would they consider phoning me? I once jumped a waiting list by 4 months, but had to go to the appointment that very afternoon!
    Hope this helps
    Tracy x

Ooh - that’s a great trick - I'm defo going to try that one, especially as I work close to the hospital - thanks for that idea.

Yeah I'm getting really fed up too with this waiting game! Its been 14 months of TTC for us now and my 15th cycle, we went to my GP at about 9 months of TTC and were told to go back after 12 months which we did. Since then DH has had his SA, the results were great, I've just had my CD19 blood done ( I have 26 day cycles so think they have asked for CD19 rather than the usual CD21) I've got to call the fertility nurse on my next CD1 which will probably be Monday and then they are going to send me out an appointment to see the specialist so god know how long I will have to wait for that! So basically I'll be moving onto cycle attempt number 16 if the witch shows up this weekend and I haven't even had a first appointment!! :hissy:

Glad you got your appointment through but bummer it is so far off... I think it's a great idea to phone and say you'd be available for cancellations at short notice - if it works great if not you've still got your original appointment.

You might find that once you see your consultant, that he'll want to do some tests before putting you on the IVF waiting list. He may want to do HSG, scans, lap, etc, which can take some time to get done.

Think about crimbo instead to help take your mind off it...

I told my clinic I would be available for cancellations - but I still ring up on the off chance once a week - and after some perseverance have twice managed to get cancellation appointments. I managed to bring one appt forward by 4 months- which makes all the difference when you are going stir crazy. so it is always worth ringing up as well hun.

Thanks Becks - i shall give them a call in a few weeks and try again - see if they have any cancellations! I even said i would do it with just 24 hours notice so fingers crossed!

In the meantime, if that nurse is gonna get me on the scales i had better step away from the pizza!

i am waiting for my 2nd appointment which is the follow up to tests, again its with a registrar but i'm thank full to see anyone. i only aited 28 days for first appointment but then was told it would be 4.5 months to the second one i was gutted. SO i rang the clinic/gyna reception EVERY WEEK and got in 1 month early, am happy with that, got 5 weeks to go to find out what we need to do next.
Put a note in your diary every couple of weeks and call them up to see if there has been a cancelation, ya never know.x

I shall do some cheeky chasing i think! I am also on a mission to shed some lard as that blasted nurse will be weighing me and i don't want her to say '1 person at a time please'... that would be BAD news!!

Plus, if i'm ready for 'treatment' when i see the nurse, less time spent after that trying to lose weight and get fit and healthy!!

I was so fit and healthy when we started TTC - it's all gone a bit wonky! xx
