Hi girls sorry I know this is a bit personal but I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow and I just wondered if she will be checking my cervix etc? Basically I need to know whether or not I need to tidy myself up down there or not? Thanks

I think it's pretty much up to the individual MW I doubt it but f it were me I';d be prepared for anything. x

My midwife just did bloodwork and bloodpressure and stuff and paperwork.. no cervix checking, since its too early prolly anyway.

christ no! i've never had that done!! not at the beginning of pregnancy anyway!?!

Gosh, maybe its different in different areas! I'd be horrified if my MW told me to drop my pants lmao xxxx

(unless i thought i was going into labour)

If it is your booking in take a urine sample and be prepared for taking bloods but no she shouldnt be getting intimate yet. That said if you are booked for a scan I would make a pass at the old "lady garden" because if they cant pick something up doing the scan normally they may go for an internal which involves putting a camera device into the vagina. Worst case scenario you get caught out and your bikini area is a little unruly but I imagine the midwife has seen much worse than a slightly overgrown "hedge" lol :)

Lol thanks girls :) i hope she doesn't either but I was watching teen mom earlier and in the states they seem to be checking down there constantly, don't know if it's just when they are filming it seems like alot, but it just got me thinking.
The life of us women hey!!!!

Im in the US, had an appointment at week 6 and 8 and she never did an internal.
I'll have an appointment at 12 weeks and I doubt she'll do anything internal then.

I have NEVER been checked 'down there' by a midwife (but i only got to 27 weeks)

I am in the US and get internal check almost everytime I go but I have had MC's

With my 1st midwife appointment it was just a lot of paperwork, blood tests and a checking my urine sample. She shouldn't be asking you to do that at this early stage. I don't think you will be checked down there unless its nescessary.

:)
