Hi, just wondered if anyone can help or feels the same. This is my 1st pregnancy and i have just been to the doctors twice. i am now booked in for my 10 week scan but thats it!!! and i'm sort of feeling like...'what about all the inbetween bits???' do i just wait??. how do i know if its growing. yes i'm exhausted, boobs got more tender (though thats passing) , feel a bit nauseous, light headed and all those other wonderful things we all experience but i'm only 4 weeks now so do i really just 'trust' that all is well until 10 weeks??
i read about people saying their hcg is going down, up etc and i wonder how often are you at the docs. i only have one hcg count and that was to tell me i was nearly 2 wks pregnant and thats all.

any advice please?? can i test my own hcg?? i just sort of want to know all is going well and not get a nasty shock at 10 weeks.

thanks in advance

I don't know anything about home hcg tests or anything like that, but I wanted to let you know you're not alone. I'm currently at 10 wks, have had two appointments, and they still won't even schedule me for a scan. I hate not knowing what's going on in there, and if the little one is OK. Hang in there! At least you have a scan scheduled.

This is my first pregnancy too. I have my first dr app on the 26th for a pregnancy test but I already know I'm 4 weeks pregnant. Way too many test that have strong BFP. I'm nervous but I know everything will be ok and my baby will be fine.

I know that this is an anxious, exciting time. But the best thing you can do is just relax. Stressing that all is not well, is not good for baby.

I am not sure about the HCG numbers either, and this is my fourth pregnancy. I think maybe it's for those women who have had a hard time getting pg? Or those with problems? I am not sure. But I would NOT worry about it.

Pretty soon, around the 7-8 wk mark, you might start getting more symptoms. You might get morning sickness so badly, you wish you wouldn't of complained. LOL! And then you might be like me, and have very little symptoms.

If you are not cramping heavily or bleeding, then everything is MOST LIKELY just fine.

I, too, get antsy waiting to see the Dr. But usually it's every 4 wks you see him/her. So try to just relax, and reveal in the fact that you are growing a little one.

I'm sorry, I know it seem such a horrendously long time to wait! Everyone is anxious during these early months, it's totally natural!
But the answer to your question is yes, you do just have to wait. Unless you have any bleeding or any history of miscarriage you don't need any extra testing.
Sadly some people do get a nasty shock at their first scan. It has happened to me in the past. But the overwhelming majority of women go to their scan and everything is fine.
The odds are significantly in your favour so try to keep calm!

I saw my midwife on thursday at 7+1 and now i have to wait until i have my scan between 12-14 weeks to see her again. She said i would then have another appointment at 16 weeks for the downs syndrome blood test, then another scan at 19 weeks, then i dont need to see her again until 24 weeks. it does seem long between each appointment doesnt it, but she said the further into pregnancy then the more i would see her.
The way i see it the less you need to see anyone before your 12 week scan (excluding the booking in appt) the better as means all is well. I know its a long wait and i hate waiting but hopefully time will pass quick for us all in first tri with no problems xxx

I went to my doctors on Monday told him I was pregnant. He took my blood pressure then refeered me to a hospital/midwife. Im not expecting to hear anything until im 12 weeks. I dont really know how this works. Im 5 weeks tomorrow with first buby. My si
ister is pregnant with her second and she told me not to expect to hear anything from a midwife until im 10-12 weeks.

This is my first pregnancy too and it really does feel like an eternity before I get to see my doc on 10/12. I will be 8 weeks by then.

Best thing to do is just occupy yourself and find support on boards like this. Don't read too many of the miscarriage threads as they will make you worry like crazy. I keep on trying to stay positive and doing whatever I can to stay healthy.

Remember... during the TTC period when each time you do the deed, even when the timing is right, the odds are only 20%! Now that we have a BFP odds are definitely in our favor!:happydance:

I was kind of surprised by the wait time during my first pregnancy, too. I could not wait to see the baby in a scan. It took a while before I was able to relax and just trust that things would indeed work out. Keep positive and take joy in each milestone.

thanks for all the replies, looks like i'm sitting and waiting which is fine. no bleeding or cramping so will just trust all is good. good to know you see people more after the 1st trimester for more scans, tests etc. just feels odd going so long at the start but i guess thats cos its my first time so you just never know.

love reading all the stuff on here though...keeps time ticking over.

xxx
