2+ blood, 2+ glucose & 2+ protein in urine at 16w, any experiences?

Hi ladies,

Well I had my 16week midwife appointment today and I have left concerned.

Firstly she took my blood pressure and it was 143/100. She retested 15 mins later and it was 137/87.

She also did a urine sample which showed 2+ blood, 2+ protein and 2+ glucose and this is what worries me the most. She started talking about pre eclampsia and said that it is very rare to get it this early, but I must contact the hospital if I start to get other symptoms. She said that she would have sent me there and then, had my blood pressure not come down.

She also asked if I have any symptoms of a UTI which I do not, but will send the sample off for further testing anyway.

Has anybody experienced this and/or have any advice?

Not experienced this myself but work as a hca at a medical practice and normally blood and protein indicate an infection which they will be able to detect when they get the results back from the urine. It is possible to have a urine infection without any symptoms though. The protein can also show if you have had sex recently. Did the midwife want to see you again for another blood pressure check at all? They will follow it all up when your urine results come through I should imagine but if you don't hear anything by next week I would ring the midwives again just to put your mind at ease. They will probably request a fasting glucose test as well since they found it in your urine. Hope this helps x

Hi stripeycat5 - thank you for your reply.

She just said that she would see me at 25 weeks so nine weeks away, she didn't mention anything about re-testing my blood pressure in the meantime, but gave me lots of advice as to what I would be looking out for in regards to pre eclampsia.

I hope it is as simple as a UTI - my son was born at 32 weeks without any reason so I am always on edge now.
