2 month sleep regression?

My DD has always been a good sleeper generally speaking.. she's gradually got better and better through the night, going longer and longer stretches, and by last week she was pretty much consistently sleeping 6 hours from 10ish til 4ish, then up for an hour to an hour and a half, then back down for anything between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours.

Now for the last few nights she's only been sleeping 4 hours at the start and then after that she's waking up every hour or so. She seems hungry but then she only feeds for like 15-20 mins and then drops back off! Then she either goes back off for an hour or she doesn't settle properly and cries after about 5mins. It's exhausting! :( Especially since I got used to those 6 hour stretches...

Anyone had this before / know what it could be?? Is it a growth spurt? I tried looking it up but it seems the first sleep regression is not til 4 months..

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure tbh but we had many cycles of bad sleep - good sleep - etc. The 4 month regression was pretty crap but after that (lasted about 3 weeks) she started sleeping through the night straight from 7-7...Not gloating but basically to say I found that bad sleep is just that - a bad phase and they go back to sleeping the same as before or better.

Do you have a routine for naps and food in the day? It might be she needs slightly longer wake times in the day now. Or it might be she needs more feeds in the day in order that she's not more hungry at night. Also, just a note - is she definitely 'waking' or is she just stirring? I had to move DD around 7 weeks or something because she seemed to be waking constantly after 3am - however she actually wasn't, she was just grunting/stirring and it was waking me, then i'd wake her. Once I moved her out I realised she stayed asleep through that entire time without me getting up and sticking a night light in her face to see if she was awake!

Don't have a routine as such through the day, but she only really cat naps anyway.. every now and then she'll have a couple of hours in the day but she usually just has the odd half an hour, so it can't be that she's sleeping too much then! She feeds every couple of hours through the day too and usually cluster feeds for a few hours in the evening too. I'm thinking (/hoping!) it's just a bad phase.

And re. stirring, I always wait until she actually cries. She quite often stirs and gets herself back off to sleep so I always make sure it's not just that before I get her up.

I just hope it's a bit of a rough patch and she goes back to sleeping like an angel! :)

when i was worried i read a thing which said if your baby was previousy a good sleeper then bad sleep is usually just a phase...helped me and i'm sure it'll be the same for your LO...good luck!

2, 6, 8 weeks, and three months -- major growth spurts. I honestly don't believe in sleep regression since that's when my kids figured out how to fall asleep :)

I did start the routine at about 2 months for my DD (and it paid off at 4 months) and by routine I mean bath/pajamas/feed/lights off/no talking/no eye contact etc. etc.

With my son it was a bit more difficult and/or I was a bit more relaxed. He started his routine practically since birth just because his sister already had one but it wasn't as strict and his naps were and still are all over the place (bad mommy!). He didn't start sleeping through until 9 months and still wakes up every other week. But I can assure you it's just different personalities - both kids are so very different: while DD screams bloody murder if she's tired, still at almost 5 years old; DS is just way too curious to go to sleep.

Its a wonder week, leap 2. My formally easy to settle baby is wide awake kicking around, gurgling & cooing rather than going to sleep! Sleep usually goes back to normal once the wonder week ends. (This one last 2 weeks, 9 days still to go according to my app! )

Oh god...well that explains it! Not looking forward to another week and a half of that! I suppose it could be worse..

How does this app work?? Does it just go off how old LO is and tell you when they're going through a wonder week and how long it'll last?Isn't every baby different!?

Thats pretty much how it works. It goes on due date. So leap 2 starts 7.5 weeks after babies due date. It was always pretty accurate with my eldest but the effects of some weren't as bad as others. Sleep probs never tended to last longer than a week with him too, even during some of the really long leaps (4 months lasts forever!) Too early to know how DS2 will be effected and for how long but so far he seems to want to move his bedtime back by a good few hours.

Google wonder weeks. Its really interesting reading what is going on in their little heads and it saved my sanity with DS1!
