Hello UK ladies,

my boys are almost 2 years old now and I was wondering if we will get invited by mail to have their 2 years health check or do we have to book this ourselves (if wanted). Also, is this with the HV or the GP?
And then finally what actually happens at those check ups? Are the more jabs too?
Thanking you in advance for any insight :)

My friends little boy had his 2 year check just after he turned 2. Alex turned 2 at the end of January and I haven't heard anything about his 2 year check yet. I wont be chasing it up if we don't hear anything either.
Sorry not much more help

Funny you posted this as I just had a call

I moved from Scotland to England a few mths ago and they said they'd just picked me up on the system and I've got a health visitor coming over on Tuesday

My little girl is three in August.. I don't think I've seen a hv since she was under 1..

What do they do?

I've got a chap coming.. Must admit I'm a little anxious as to someone coming in the house I don't really know and would rather they didn't but I guess if we say no they might flag us or something so I'll let them come. I don't have any concerns with her so I don't really see the point

I got a phonecall to book Ellie's with health visitor.

Went to local health centre for it. She observed Ellie play with a table of toys, talked to her, weighed her, talked to me (questions about language, behaviour, diet etc.) and gave some advice and leaflets on potty training. It was very relaxed and pleasant.

Alex only had his check a few weeks back (even tho he is nearer 3 ). We received a letter from the health visitor giving us an appointment which we couldnt make so she made another appointment with us at our house. When she turned up Alex didnt really want to interact with her at all. He went and got a book to read and she watched him turning the pages and listened to him talking to me about his book. That was all she did, she observed him using his hands correctly and with precision (turning his pages ) and talking to me. She also weighed him and asked me if we had any concerns

we just got the letter this morning. it comes with a leaflet listing all the things a 2 year old 'should' be able to do

I expect it's done differently with different practices but mine sends a letter out. It's done by a HV and there are no jabs. I think it's between 2 and 2.5 years so I haven't had LOs yet and no appointment yet either as they do them a bit later here.

With my DD I got sent a letter asking me to book an appointment with the health visitor for her 2 year check. They also sent me a couple of questionnaire type things with lists and tick boxes for me to complete to say what she could do. Things such as, talking, jumping, walking up and downstairs, threading beads, drawing a line, following instructions etc. She was 2 years 3 months at the time and hardly talking and had trouble understanding instructions. She has a follow up appointment tomorrow (4 months later) to check her speech, which has improved greatly. She was also weighed and measured last time. They had no concerns but just wanted to check as I was concerned about her lack of language compared to her friends.

Interesting. What do they think they 'should be doing' ? Only 10 weeks to cram for the test ;)
