My two year old has never been a great sleeper but recently he has been crying out for 2-3 hours during the night. Needless to say this is exhausting especially being pregnant with my 3rd. We took bottles away about 3 weeks ago which went fine. I did give in last night but he still wouldnt settle so that is not needed. Any advice. Some say to just leave him but thats a long time. I have been going in every 20-30 mins lying him back down and saying its sleep time. Any advice would be great. Would love him sleeping through by the time baby number 3 is here. Thanks x

I've read that if they are in bed longer than they can sleep it can make them wake at night and be awake for hours. Counting naps and bedtime to wakeup time figure out how much he is sleeping.

However.... Megan wakes in the night if she hasn't napped during the day and yet she is starting to not nap sometimes. She gets overtired very easily and if she wakes she has a hard time falling back to sleep.

I was reading ferbers book about it... Seems that the in bed too long, sleep associations, or irregular schedules account for a lot with these issues.

We had this and it was due to not liking the feeling of a damp nappy. If our child is potty trained in the day then I think this is worth considering. Try changing his nappy and seeing if he will resettle x

Your child not our child....must read before I post lol

Ds1 has never been great but went through a really bad period if waking for up to 2 hours around 17 months - never got to the bottom of it and we tried everything , he just stopped after a few months :(

Sorry no advice but you are not alone xxx

Could it be night terrors? From what I've read it starts at around 2. Sorry not much help, but I know how frustrating it is!

We're currently going through a period of night wakings with Louis. He has two white dots on his gums at the back and so it would appear he's cutting his second molars, poor baby. Forgotten how awful teething is, he's had all his other teeth from 15 months. I've had to bring him in with us for 10 mins or so sometimes to calm him down but also do what you do, keep going in and resettling.

Thanks for advice. We have cut back on naps to an hour and never let him sleep past 2pm so he is ready to have a bath at 6.15 then a drink and then realxing before bed. I go in and lie him back down when he wakes because if I pick him up and cuddle him he just screams out more when I put him down.. I have looked up night terrors but wasnt convinced it was this because it said they go back to sleep shortly after and Harrison doesnt. Could be his 4 back teeth coming through or the fact hes moved into a big bed. We thought this would help as he tends to bash his head etc and wakes so more space to wriggle about but hasnt helped so far x
