20w scan gender question - 2 lines and told its a girl...

Hi all

On Friday afternoon we had our 20w scan. We said if he could tell the sex we would like to know. A little while into the scan he said "looks to me like you're having a girl" and I asked what he saw - he said 2 white lines - the labia.

I asked him how sure in % - he said 80% but he would never tell anyone 100%. He said if he couldn't see it / wasn't sure - he wouldn't have said anything at all, he'd have told us he couldn't see.

I am still in total and utter shock. NOT disappointed ONE BIT. Just shocked! My OHs family is ALL boys and I just got used to having a brood of boys!!! (we want 3-4 kids). Our 1st is a boy! My family are mostly girls and my sister and brother both had one of each.

I'm in shock and sort of can't believe it. I feel like I can't get excited because I just can't believe I could be having a baby girl. Something I'll admit I always dreamed of, but sorted of dealt with the reality of not getting that dream!

Anyway - long waffle! He said he saw 2 lines - the labia. My sister just came over and said "aaah did he see the 3 lines?" I was like NO, WTF??? Her midwife said 3 lines meant a girl!

I've done some googline (bad I know!) but it seems mixed - people seem to say 2 lines and 3 lines for a girl. Nobody seems to say 2 lines indicate a boy - just that a willy is REALLY obvious LOL.

Anyone have any thoughts?!?!? No scan pics - we forgot to ask as my mouth was still on the floor!!!!!!!!!

I haven't seen lines on any of my boys just an obvious scrotum lol so I'd think if he saw two lines then most likely a girl but if you really want to know for sure maybe go private if you can.

boys bits look like a snail and girls bits look a bit like a burger cut in half,2 or 3 lines

my daughter had 3 lines. My little boy had an obvious scrotum, lol. couldnt see his penis as the cord was in the way.

i had a private gender scan last week when i was 16 weeks and 6 days and it was a definate girl there was 3 lines and a complete absence of any male parts...so my baba is def little girl number 4 or little boy number 1 with no peepee lol xxx

Sounds to me like your having a little girl There are no lines involved in seeing that a boy is a boy!

Wow thanks girls - so happy to read your replies! So it seems like girls can have 2 OR 3 lines (hamburger stylee!!!) but boys - there are no lines and its totally obvious there are boy bits!!! eeeeeek we're having a girl!!!!!!!!!!! x

I've heard girls do have 3 lines but sometimes looks like 2 and a pea in the middle

Yeah, boy bits are VERY noticable He would def see a penis if it was a boy I think. I know my boy was waving his all around at 16 week scan

LOL i was the same as you, my OH's family,on his dads side hasnt had a girl in 45 years, theyre all boys!!
Although i was convinced i was havin a girl anyway, i still felt like i shouldnt hope, and even after the scan person told us she was 80% sure it was a girl, we were reluctant to start buying girly clothes until we had a private 4D scan to reassure us... we got a full on potty shot and 100% confirmation that were having a girly

The lady said there was clearly no scrotum there, and there was lines. i think you cn tell instantly with a boy xxx

On mine you could very clearly see the legs (two long lines) and NOTHING in between so she said it was definitely a girl.

when my sister went for a private gender scan they said if it was a girl she would have 3 lines which she did... but he must mean 3 im sure he wouldnt of said anything if he wasnt sure.... congratulations xx

oh wow this is my first time on here only just joined and I am in same boat. I went for first scan at 14 weeks and clearly (very clearly) can see 2 bright white lines i didn't think about this until someone at work said lines = girls !!! I have 2 boys and all family have boys cousins etc all had boys (8 in total) no girl been born into family for past 26 years so again i was expecting a boy.... so pleased for you if your having a girl. I am going for 20 week scan on 6th Oct so will just have to wait and see !!!

At my 23 week scan, we found out the gender, to be told, wow 3 lines, you have a little princess not sure about two lines but I would say a girl too x

My daughter had 3 lines - the sonographer described it was a burger in a bun OMG!!!

i hope so.... trying not to get hopes up but have 2 boys...... and on previous scans no lines at all and they where boys..... this one shoes the lines so hoping girl.... will have to wait till oct 9th now to find out for sure...... booked to go to private scan tomorrow but cancelled it as scared they would say boy !! ha ha

There were defiantly no lines on my boys scans so you never know!
