Hi everyone out there,

Really want some advice and support please.

I went for my 22 + 2 day scan and they said my cervix was short and to come back tomorrow to cervix clinic. They told me last night that my cervix is 7mm and i've got a 50% chance of having my baby by 32 weeks roughly.

They gave me some progestorone pessaries (cyclogest) to take everyday to strengthen what cervix i have but i am so scared and this is my 1st baby. They will also do a steroid injection at 24 weeks to help mature babys lungs.

They've said that bed rest has not proven to help and that i should carry on as normal although take it easy and avoid strenuous things.

can anyone offer me some postivie feedback or is anyone out there in the same boat and reached a safe part of the pregnancy??

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

hoping the best for you, sorry to hear about the news. keep us posted.

i'd stay on bed rest, it won't hurt you and have heard it worked wonders for a lot of women as it relieves the pressure from the cervix.
Can't they do an emergency cerclage? here in USA they do it up to 25 weeks.

A lot of women manage to hold on for weeks with a short cervix, so don t think the worse, but i would be a little more insistent on the cerclage....
good luck xx

I always have a short cervix they found, mine was 2.5 cm, so much longer but I always have another appt to get it rechecked this wednesday and so far its been a steady 2.5 for almost a month after finding out. I feel like the progesterone works I am using suppositories. I myself did a lot of research on this and I would do best rest if I were you. It can't hurt and it always would ease your mind more without being out like "oh no will this shorten it!?" I am a waitress and I have cut back on shifts because I am afraid. But I think all work out well for you girl! Have they suggested a cerclage??

hi guys,

thanks for your feedback guys. I'm not sure what a clercage is? they said to me they are trialling 2 options, one is the suppositries which i insert every night or a ring around the cervix. Like an elastic band basically.

I wasn't eligible to go for the ring so am taking the suppositries every night and hoping these will work.

I do sometimes think these trials and tests they do now do put the frightners on us a bit??!

I quit my bar job today and am just sticking to my office job which involves little moving around and i can just park my bum all day so taking any pressure off then soon as i'm home i lay down on the sofa.

I was suggested a maternity support as it lifts pressure off the cervix and a stitch

I don't have any advice but do have a positive premature birth story for you- A girl I work with had complications and they had to take her baby before 30 weeks, I think she was 28 weeks (can't recall exact date, but know it was before 30) and they did the steroid shots to speed up development and all that, and her little girl is happy and healthy today.

Keep us posted.

And I will add that one of mine was premature at just before 30 weeks. He is now 12 yrs old and a healthy typical teenager

They were worried about my cervical length from 20 weeks and I had a scan every 2 weeks until 26 weeks to check. The length stayed the same each time. Didn't take progesterone but was told to take it easy and NO sex. They said they would do their best to get me to 28 weeks!
Here I am at 35 weeks + and I just know I am going to go over now :haha:

Thank you for the replies. it has reassured me that if i'm early my babys chances are good.

Just can't believe my cervix isn't even 1cm!! They don't do a stitch anymore in the uk they do the hormones or a ring.

Got my next cervical scan on Thursday so will let you know the outcome x
