Hi. I am 24 weeks and have not gained any weight. Is this a bad thing? I lost 8 lbs in the first month and have not gained any back. I am plus sized 18/20. How can my baby be growing if im not gaining?

I think its totally normal. They say plus size women don't/shouldn't gain much anyways. Have you talked to your doctor about your concern?

Hi there! I am a 16/18, and I also haven't gained any weight. I too lost some in my first trimester, but have been steady ever since. My Dr. is fine with it, and says that baby is just fine. YOU actually may be loosing weight, while baby is gaining. I don't know about you, but I am eating much differently than I was before I got pregnant. My appetite is reduced so my portion sizes are much smaller, and I am not eating (or craving) nearly as many sweets as I was before. I have also gone off of diet soda (I will have ONE regular soda once or twice a week). So, for me, I think I am likely just eating better.

I'm the same size and in the same boat. As of the last appointment, I'm still at a total pg weight gain of -5 lbs, which is up from -17 about 8 weeks ago. Doc says its very normal. All the nutrients we would normally keep for us is going straight to baby, so while we're losing baby is gaining.

I plan on asking at my next appt. My doctor has never measured my uterus, they just do a urine test and check heartbeat. I wish they would start measuring fundus so i will know if babys growing ok. But i too havent been eatting much like i did with my last 2 pregnancies. I gained 80 lbs with 1st and around 30 with the last.

Hi there :D
It's fine you haven't gained yet - I haven't either after losing about 5kg in 1st trimester through MS, and since have remained steady.
They won't start measuring your uterus until at least 24 weeks, they measured mine a couple of days ago and despite the lack of weight gain am measuring 2.5cm large for dates.
Us plus sized women are recommended to gain only 14-20lbs during the whole pregnancy anyways for the best baby outcomes, so sounds like you're doing great!
x

You lucky thing, that's what I've been told to do and I'm not having much luck, i'm starving all the time!

Apparently fundus measurements are very inaccurate if you're overweight, they never checked mine for that reason.

I'm a size 16 too and I'm still 7lbs down on my weight before I found out I was pregnant. I agree with the other ladies, don't think there is as much as a need to gain if you are plus size.

I'm delighted to be honest and really gonna try to keep any weight gain to a minimum. As long as I can see my belly growing, I'm quite happy for everything else to get smaller.

Would agree its probably got a lot to do with healthier eating, perhaps smaller portion sizes. I know I can only eat small amounts now (although much more often these days) x

I'm minus 2 from booking in appt and an 18/20, midwife said its fine when you're bigger, baby will take its share first, so you dont need to worry about them, and that it isnt uncommon for bigger women to end up lighter post birth than pre conception. Just eat healthy and relax :)

I don't think it's anything to worry about hon :) I'm 20 weeks pregnant with twins and still haven't gained weight as yet ... I've actually lost it too. I'm a UK size 10 too. If you're worried then just ask your midwife but I'm sure she will reassure you that your bubs is growing just fine :) :hugs:

Im plus size... Size 18/20 and have lost 12lbs and not gained any back. All my scans baby has been ahead of schedule and maintaining weight. I did this with my last preg and lost 28 lbs and had a healthy 6lb 12 oz 22 1/2in boy. I eat alot healthier while pregnant and my dr's never seem to think anything of it.

I dont think it does any harm, I'm not plus size, only a UK size 8, but with my last pregnancy I only gained 2 lbs through the whole 9 months.. even tho I had an absolutely massive bumb!

My BMI is only 19 but i've not gained any weight yet either and I didn't gain any weight in my last pregnancy. I don't think all women gain weight during pregnancy.

Your baby will always take what it needs before your own body will. So if you feel a bit unwell or tired then you need to try eat more but otherwise don't worry!

I've only gained a couple of pounds amazingly as I gained nearly 4 stone in my last pregnancy and only lost a couple before getting pregnant again. I'm quite glad I havent gained too much as I really struggled being so big last time.

I am approx size 20 too, so also plus size. I am just over 26 weeks now and still weigh the same as i did during my booking appointment. But i AM bigger. I asked the doctor about this during an appointment for Symphysis pubis pain.... And she just said that it's perfectly normal. Some women don't put weight on until near the end of the pregnany, some women start putting on weight really early.

I said "but im bigger now!" And she said that the baby is probably using up my fat reserves.

I wouldn't worry.

Hi! I wouldn't be concerned, I heard that if you have more weight you tend not to gain as much weight. I lost 9 pounds, started at 147, went down to 138 with sickness and not eating, I am at 147 (my starting weight) at 22 weeks. I am a petite figure, and thought maybe I wasn't gaining enough or the lack of weight gain was harmful. My doctor said it was normal and not to worry unless they found ketones in your urine, which apparantly is energy from fat cells.

I would say you are fine and so is your babes, eventually you will fill out and most of it will probably be the baby's weight, which you will lose most of it anyway. xx :hugs:
