3 yr old complaining of pain when peeing

my 3yr old dd has been telling me it hurts to pee. she has started holding it until she can't anymore and some times ends up wetting herself. when i looked i did notice her "girl parts" are red i've tried using diaper cream to see if that helps (she's potty trained so i don't think it's diaper rash) and it doesn't get any better.
i was wondering if anyone has dealt with this before and if so what was wrong. i'm going to take her to the dr saturday but i don't think she's going to like having her "girl parts" looked at by someone she hardly knows.

Sounds like she might have a urinary tract infection...I'd call your dr they will probably want to see her and put her on some antibiotics if she has one
