went to the doc for my strep b and first internal checkup friday and before she really even got her hands in there she was saying to the nurse "oh wow.. yeah we're measurable.. definitely measurable.." she didn't say anything about effacement but she did say i was 1cm dilated and she could feel my baby's head. with all the nice weather i've been taking alot of long walks.. i'm wondering if i should stop until we get a little further along? should we avoid sex? or is being 1cm so early normal? she didn't tell me to stop doing anything but our appointments are always quick and i always get the same "if something is happening go to triage" speech.
ty :hugs:

I think you're okay! Baby's not going to come unless the time is ready. :hugs:

I walked around for weeks dilated and DS came on his EDD. You're probably fine!

Is it your second or more baby? Apparently a lot of second time mums walk around 1cm dilated constantly. If not, I wouldn't worry. You are nearly full term and mums can be dilated early on and still go overdue. :flower:

I was 1cm dilated at my check up 2 weeks ago (at 36 weeks) and haven't progressed. We still take walks (can't go longer than 30min. though :haha:) and DTD about once a week and other than some mild contractions, everything is still the same. I'd say you are okay to keep doing what you are doing and as others have said, LO will come when he is ready :)

Keep doing what your doing not uncommon to be 1-2cm for 3-4wks.
Plus looking at your ticker your full term in a week so if anything does happen its all good :D

With my last pregnancy I started getting checked for dilation at 35 weeks and I was already 1 cm but it's totally normal. I ended up going a week overdue. Keep walking and dtd. Staying active is great!

With my son I was 2cm from 36 weeks and still had to be induced at 41. I think you'll be fine.

It's normal to be 1cm at that stage. :)

thanks everyone! i have my last shower this weekend and need him to stay put at least till then.. and when i told my family i was dilated everyone panicked! good to hear i can keep on walking. thanks!:hugs::flower:

at 35 weeks with my second baby I was 1cm dilated, havent stopped dtd or walking and will find out tomorrow if I've dilated any more.... Ugh I hope I have. I'm 37 weeks now and its safe for baby to come at any time now :)

Glad YOU aren't panicking. Yeah, it is normal to be 1cm at that point. You could be 1cm for months, honestly.

I'm at risk for preterm labor. I had a 32 weeker in 2014. I'm 37+1 weeks today with baby #2. Baby is considered full term, but my doctor warned me to avoid orgasms, and semen inside the vagina. Both of these could trigger labor. I'm also not allowed marathon shopping. Even though I'm term, I'm still avoiding these things because I want my full 40 weeks. If your doctor hasn't given you any restrictions, I would say continue as you are. Walking and drinking lots of water can help with an easier birth and labor. I know this for a fact because even though our first son was early, I dilated to 10 cm with little or no pain in a matter of hours...I'm not walking as much this time, but I'm getting in my share of water even though my bladder likes to empty every 15 minutes.

I was a 1cm at my 36 week appt with DD. Didn't make a difference to the dr. She said it was fine and normal for me to be dilated because DD is my 2nd child. My sis was dilated to a 3-4 from 37 weeks to 39+6 with regular contractions that would start-n-stop every day but wouldn't stay consistent enough for her to go in. She was so uncomfortable that she even had a membrane sweep done at 39 weeks but it was still almost a week before she had her last baby. I wouldn't worry.
