3d/4d scans?

Have to agree with aob103 and sb22  if we wanted a thread about any risks to do with scans we would have asked, and if you wanted to share you should have started a new thread, this is getting a bit silly really and some people may be getting upset, your comment about how having a scan with a live baby doesnt mean there is a live baby 5 minutes later....has really upset me after everything some of us ladies have been through !

I couldnt have put it better myself Mummy2Angel and I totally agree with every single word

1st tri is a scary place for us ladies and even scarier when you enter a thread about the op`s excitment at having 3d/4d to find it has all been invaded with stats/info on unproven risks to baby! I was truly upset by the `having a scan with a live baby only for it not to be live 5mins later` comment this was totally uncalled for and I would def say this is a scare tactic. There will always be ladies in 1st tri who have suffered losses and whilst we are all aware of what this feels like and also how much we worry everything will be ok this time we also try to remain stress/worry free as much as possible and to enter a thread like this one about the joy of a 3d/4d scan only to be scared half to death is really not a stress/worry free experience. The idea of this forum is surely to support each other not scare each other witless.

I think it may be helpful if people were more considerate before posting such stats/info and also be mindful of the possible viewing audience. I would certainly understand and probably avoid had the op asked the question `does anyone know of any risks if I were to have additional scans`but she didnt and therfore unless a person has/is aksed for such info I dont think it such be posted therefore such upset can be avoided!

Wow, I wasn't the OP, I wasn't looking for info on the risks of scans, but I was grateful to be educated about it and found the data interesting.
I think we all come here to be supported and provide and find helpful information. She posted the extensive links because I asked for them, she didn't come in here and plaster them all over.

If someone were to eat sushi/lunchmeat/unpasteurized cheese would you not tell them there are risks? The studies cannot say what the scans do, they do mention the heat from the scans and the known risks that overheating a fetus can cause. That was interesting to me. Sorry if it was seen as a 'scare tactic' by the rest of you. You don't have to believe it or care if SOMEONE says there are risks. None of the studies conclusively say there are issue from the scans, therefore you can take that to be non-relevant information to your decision-making process.

What is upsetting ME is that she did not come in here to be mean, she was being helpful and responding to MY questions about the issue, and all of you are attacking her... something NONE of us need in the first tri.

Thanks to those who are supporting me :hugs:

I made my thoughts heard and I'm sorry if there's people out there were aren't impressed with my say it like it is attitude. I'm not the type to sugarcoat things nor am I the type to keep my mouth shut when I feel there is worthwhile info to share. And because so many women are not actually aware of the medical recommendation to avoid non-medical scans I can't help but feel compelled to share that info. Again what you do with that info is up to you.

I was actually compelled to get a 3D/4D scan up until a few months ago but changed my mind after I began researching it further and I believe there are other woman out there (though they may be the minority) who would do the same if they were made aware of the recommendations. And it's important to note that sometimes what doctors or midwives say or do does nor reflect what they should actually be saying or doing. One should never unestimate the importance of self education and if you're care provider is not up to date with things it can be worthwhile to inform them.

And the only reason I post links is so that readers who are actually interested in what I say will know that it's not just some b*llsh*t I'm making up.

In regards to the live baby one minute and not moments later.... Well I'm sorry for not sugar coating it but it happens. It's tragic! It sucks! But bad things happen. And while it is temporarily reassuring to see a FHR on u/s it does not completely eliminate the risk of miscarriage or stillbirth... I certainly wish it did, especially having spotted everyday for the last 6 weeks.... but it doesn't. And I'm not implying at all the u/s causes fetal death.... I'm just saying that ultrasound for reassurance purposes alone may be of limited value and there may be other avenues more suitable in curbing anxiety issues.

Everyone's different and everyone will have their own opinions on things and unfortunately for some of you I will continue to share my opinions. But for now I have little to add to this subject and will move on until another 3D U/S thread makes it's appearance....

Poor OP opens a thread about 3D scans and her excitement, and gets shot down with "oooh you shouldnt" links.

PMA and all? Some of the girls are worrying enough without reading that, in fact 2nd tri are now worrying about it all.

Theres a way in doing it, but throwing links at people at any given chance isnt the way.

Sorry but thats just disgusting the way you are speaking about losses, i'm aware it happens i lost my baby boy in march i am aware of that! totally horrible and disrespectful

:hugs: Mummy2Angel

I had a loss the month directly prior to this LO and am well aware too but am finding it extremely hard to except that another bnb member is so blantantly uncaring of other members feelings regarding such a sensitive issue! We are not in denial about such risks just simply finding a way of coping and getting through 1st tri as stress free as possible! The lack of support and caring is mindboggling :growlmad:

and why would the NHS here in the UK introduce a 20 weeks scan and a 13 week NT scan when the dating scan was enough before? Have babies suddenly changed from years ago? No - but obviously the NHS are putting us at risk now for giving us the optional scans?

As for 3D scans - my visit to Babybond was done by a sonographer from the local NHS hospital, who does a stint at Babybond once a week.

No way could I believe I read that right and had to read it over again  so disrespectful in more than one way!

Do I need to keep an eye on your account?

It really is about the approach rather than what information you found to share. Maybe create a separate topic discussing it?
