We are having a nightmare with my 3 month old. After his night feeds, he will wake up completely and scream for anywhere between 30 mins to 2 hours. This has just started happening for the last week or so. He's had a bedtime routine (dark room, pjs, song, feed) for the last two months and it was working fine. I had been feeding him to sleep but the last month he is occasionally still awake when he goes down and he falls to sleep without a problem. During the night feed he will often fall completely asleep, even while I burp him, but as soon as he's put back in the crib he's awake and screaming. Nothing will sooth him - he screams the same if he's being held, shushed and patted as he does if he's left in the crib. All the while he'll be yawning like crazy so he's obviously tired. The only thing to make any difference is to put him in his bouncy chair with vibrate on where he will fuss but not scream generally but I'm reluctant to do this regularly in case he becomes reliant on it. We've tried swaddling, white noise, completely dark room, lighter room, night light, mattress elevated at one end, feeding again, burping, changing nappy, earlier/later bedtime - nothing's made a difference. It's starting to really impact us as a family: DH works long hard hours and is wrecked on such disturbed sleep and DS1 is being a nightmare as he's so tired from being repeatedly woken up. It's now 2 hours since he woke for his feed and he's still awake. Does anyone have any ideas or tips? TIA

My LO is only 5 weeks old and does the exact same thing. I believe he has silent reflux as he has pretty much all the symptoms of it, including being really unsettled after a feed, especially when then laid flat (my LO will also fall asleep while being fed or burped, and then wake and start screaming as soon as I lay him in his crib).

Google it and see if your LO has any of the other symptoms for it as you can then go to the GP and get some help for it. Mine has just been started on medicine yesterday so will be interesting to see if it makes a difference..!
I feel for you, it's horrible isn't it!

I started a thread on here about it, have a look, there's some helpful replies :-)

Gosh, thanks for that, the two cases do sound remarkably similar! I'd kind of ruled reflux out because he sleeps well (up to 3 hours) during the day flat in his crib, and always goes down fine at bedtime, again flat in his crib and I would've thought that reflux wouldn't let him settle well in those situations? However, like your LO he has started fussing about 5 mins into a feed....I assumed it was something to do with my letdown or his (now corrected) tongue tie, but I suppose it could all be related. Thank you for alerting me - I will take him to the docs next week and get the ball rolling and see what happens.
