My 4 month old ds hates cloth nappes ive been using disposables up until today. I decided to start using cloth nappys so i bought some dudleybaba minky pocket nappys there lovely and soft i put a bamboo insert in them with a fleece liner on the otherside to wick the moisture i made sure they werent to tight but he hates them he seems to tolerate them untill he has a pee then he screams blue murder until i take it off him but when i take it off him his bum is dry and so is the fleece liner as his wee has soaked threw to the bamboo insert. Would it be cruel to keep trying or should i just put him back in disposable so hes happy. What else can i do to make him happier in cloth? Im getting some microfibre inserts to put ontop of the bamboo insert but doubt it will make much difference. His nappys arent even that wet when he screams ( which is about 20 mins after i put it on him) because hes not really a big wetter.

A mf insert will absorb the wee quicker so may help.

I'd keep trying. May just be the change of sensation that bothers him. He'll probably get used to it.

Hope it works out.

I've been CDing my newborn from the hospital and she starts to make grunting sounds which progressively turn into fussyness and then crying to let me know that she has filled her diaper. So I change her. It doesn't matter how much, I just change it. I have no idea what she will do when she is a bit older, but I'd rather she not sit in a filled diaper for too long.

On the bright side, at least you always know when he's wet so you can be sure his diaper is changed promptly! Another plus would be that it would make potty training easier if he hates being wet in a cloth diaper.

I'd say to keep going. Change him if he's properly upset but it's normal for baby to feel the difference and as they don't understand it it could be unsettling. If you're using the nappies I think you're using (pocket nappies with a fleece inside layer) I would not use another fleece liner on top of that. It won't help wick anything quicker, in fact I would worry it would make it slower for the liquid to pass through because it's double the thickness. The normal fleece inside layer should be sufficient to keep LO feeling dry.

Keep trying we use the dudeybaba minky nappies and my lo prefers them to cloth, she snuggles into them as i put them on - so cute! I use one microfleece inset and a flushable liner and that works well for the daytime.

If the weather is still v hot with you that might affect it as the cloth is warmer than a sposie, but its turning colder this week, so... It's probably just the change of sensation for your lo, good luck!

I don't think that's true Poppy. The only stats I've heard are that cloth is cooler than disposables, despite how they look, because they are more breathable which allows heat to escape better. I think cloth with PUL is around 1 degree C cooler than a sposie and cloth with a wool cover is another degree cooler again. The increasing use of disposables has been (theoretically) linked to rising rates of male infertility due to increased scrotal temperatures.

If it was me, there's no way in hell I'd go back to sposies, it's great that he's learning when he's wet already. You want them to know when they've peed, even this early. Plus, you can tell when he's peed too ;)
