4 month sleep regression, wonder week 19 or just disruption to routine?

When I had my LO, he wasn't too bad a sleeper then all of a sudden at 2 weeks old, he got worse. Waking and being a lot more unsettled. This happened the night after we took him to see the Olympic Torch go through our area. It was very noisy and very busy. From that night, he slept terribly for quite a while. Then we got over that as he gradually started to improve, eventually going through until about 8/8.30am. Then we took him to my brother's one evening (think he was about 16 weeks) where there were a few other people. It was quite loud and we left relatively late. He had slept on and off throughout being there but not solidly so we thought we would get a nice lay in because of going to bed so late. No, he woke up every 3 hours that night and then for the next couple of nights he woke up every 4 hours or so. He gradually came out of that and then on Saturday, it was my birthday so we went out for dinner. Again, it was pretty loud so he was awake quite late. We got home at about 11pm so I thought we'd get a lie in but no, he started to wake up at 4am. Thought it was a one off but no, he did it again last night.

To me it sounds like one of the wonder weeks again but it just seems so strange that it always happens after he has a late night. All of these times that he wakes during the night, he just has a bottle of milk and then goes straight back to sleep. What do you think?

I think it may be connected to going to bed too late. Even if LO is sleeping when you're out, it sounds like it's not a deep sleep. He's probably overtired when he finally goes to bed, causing him to wake more frequently.

After 8 weeks or so, I just had to stop bringing Charlotte out at night. She really needs to be in her crib at 6pm or 7pm to sleep well through the rest of the night. If DH and I want to go somewhere, we have to get a babysitter. Babies are less portable as they get older :(

I think if it is the disruption, then I'll just have to grin and bear it as I don't want to leave him with a babysitter if I can help it. Don't get me wrong, I will leave him with a friend or family member when I need to - like last week when I had a funeral to go to and I just couldn't take him to that - but I really don't want to find a babysitter every time I want to go out in the evening (which isn't often anyway) when he can come with me. I looked up the Wonder Weeks earlier and I was thinking maybe it's more to do with that as he has woke up at 4am for the past 2 nights and we didn't go out last night. And these disruptions to his sleeps seem to happen at around that time. Perhaps it is just a coincidence that it happens when we go out for an evening.

See how I go tonight I guess. I can't help but wonder if it's because he is getting hungrier. He is a very hungry little boy! x

I LOVE the Wonder Weeks book. The fussy phases have been spot on for my LO. So that could be contributing to the disrupted sleep.

If it's at all helpful, we got through WW 19, then had a brief nice period, and then were on to WW 26. We're out of the last WW now and LO is just so happy and smiley and fun to be with! I'm enjoying her a lot at the moment. I'm relieved I don't have to go through another one for awhile...

That's fantastic news, I'm really looking forward to this phase ending. I haven't read that book but I've looked it up quite a bit and it does definitely seem to fit his patterns. He has been extra grumpy and I saw this chart on the link below. Definitely think there's something to it all x
