Sorry, for the long post and thanks for reading, driving myself a bit potty after a scan this morning
.
Based on egg collection day (we had ivf and my eggs were collected three weeks ago today) I am 5 weeks pregnant today. We had a scan this morning as they have been monitoring my ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS) and they checked my uterus while they were there - I think the doctor was hoping to be able to give us some good news.
At the start of scanning the uterus she said it looked promising, and she said to the other doctor in there while she was looking about some light with a tiny bit of dark in it that she could see. Basically she seemed to be able to see where the pregnancy will hopefully be but not much else. She said sometimes you can see a ring even though she could not see this I did not get the impression it was game over, but she could not give me the reassurance we were hoping for either. Obviously I was really hoping for something more in the way of a sac and it seems a lot of people see sacs (is this what shows up as the ring she mentioned?) at 5 weeks? Is this the case?
I got a dark positive test 10 days ago and the conception indicator on the other one showed 1-2weeks (10 days ago), the conception indicator went up to 2-3 weeks 5 days ago. I checked today as well and got darker lines on two different tests (run out of the conception indicator ones).
I think one of the doctors could tell I was disappointed and he said that if I wanted to get my OHSS checked again to ring on Thursday and they could scan me again next Monday (I think he was giving me the option of another chance to see more in my uterus too). Not sure whether to do this or not as when we had a blighted ovum we had about 4 scans before it was confirmed and it was heart-breaking and stressful watching the empty sac grow every week. However, my last pregnancy ended in an ectopic so maybe I should, given the chance, check the location of the pregnancy.
The whole clinic has been great and the doctor this morning who did the scan is lovely and seems very competent. However I am hoping that as a doctor she has quite a bit of variety in her week and only does a bit of scanning (plus she is young), perhaps meaning that she is not as adept as some of the ladies who do that for a greater proportion of their working week. Maybe, I am just clutching at straws!!
If I dont ring for an early one I think my next scan will be in 3-4 weeks after which the ivf clinic, if everything is okay, discharge me to our GP. Getting to that day would be AMAZING!! A long wait, but maybe it will give chance for the pregnancy to settle, with perhaps less stress. Obviously I will definitely be phoning if OHSS does get worse.
Not loads in the way of symptoms but the OHSS has been dominating most physical feelings. My breasts are sometimes tender and my stomach was burning this morning and I had to put something in it at about 4am. I guess symptoms can be down to the progesterone I am on anyway so maybe dont mean much either way.
Thanks for any advice / shared experiences and well done if you got all the way to the end of this post!!
