I found out 2 weeks ago I'm pregnant with baby #3 and been informed yesterday that I'm being made redundant. How will we manage without any materity pay. Dh doesn't make a lot nevermind paying for a family of 5! We can't move house as we have only had mortgage a year and don't have any saving to put towards a deposit, we've got a car on finace and can't pay the outstanding amount off but have another 4 years left to pay. I keep job hunting but getting know where.

I feel like it's all my fault we're in this position. Is there anything I would be entitled to instead of maternity or any ideas of getting a new job as soon as possible. Never been out of work since I left college and feel so ashamed

You may still be entitled to claim maternity allowance when the time comes. It's the same amount as SMP but obviously some employers pay extra on top of SMP that you won't get. You don't pay tax or NI on MA though.
There is a qualifying amount of weeks you have to have worked in a certain time period though. Perhaps you could do agency temping for the next 6 months to get some income and make sure you qualify for MA?
look at the direct.gov website to find out about MA and other benefits that you might be able to claim now your income has gone down.
Also you can claim contributions based JSA while you are looking for work.

I have looked in contribution based JSA but I have been working part time and haven't contributed enough to get JSA and also I won't have been working enough weeks in my qualifying period to get MA either. I've been looking for temp and perm jobs, but in my area they are few and far between unless you are skilled in a certain area which I'm not. I feel like there is know where to turn for the best. Me and dh have worked so hard for so many years and when we need a little bit of help and support we get turned away

Have you been working at your employment long enough to be entitled to SMP before you will be made redundant? I found this on the HMRC website:

My employee has been made redundant: do I still have to pay her SMP?
Yes. If a woman has qualified for SMP from you then you are still liable to continue to pay SMP to her where she leaves your employ for whatever reason including redundancy. However if after the baby is born, your employee or ex-employee starts work for another employer who did not employ her in the 15th week before her expected week of childbirth, payment may stop, see Employee works for another employer.

So maybe they still have to pay you even if you are being made redundant? x

I will probably be made redundant at 6/7 months pregnant and my companies will pay 6 months full 3 months half then 3 months smp on too of my redundancy? Can you not push for maternity on top if redundancy at all? I don't know if that's standard or just the way my company works sorry

there is come other money you can get from the govenment, have a look at Direct.gov

you will get mat allowence if your already 5 weeks pregnant as long as you were at your job long enough you get it if you have worked 26 weeks out of the 66 weeks leading up to your due date pregnancy is only 40 weeks so as long as you worked 27 consecutive weeks before you even concived you will be coverd sorry about the spelling i havnt got my glasses on so kinda blind to the keybord .

i have also been made redundent hence the reaserch into all this luckily i have been offerd another job have you thought of applying for a temp job even if you had to work on the till in asda i would do it to support your babies x x x
