Hiya ladies

Can you let me know all about your LO's naps at 7 months, or if your LO is 7 months now.

The past week or so Max seems to have changed his naps. He would always go around 2 hours between naps, but it's getting longer between naps. He naps normally around 40 minutes each one, but every couple of days an afternoon nap can be up to 100 minutes.

He now goes 2.5 hours in a morning, then another 2.5 hours and now sometimes has dropped the afternoon one completely, but is pooped by 5.15 and bedtime is 6-6.30. I'm not putting him to bed at 5pm!

Last week, after his third nap, he'd wake up and be really really grumpy, moody and whingy until I put him to bed.

So before a typical day was:
Up at 7.30
Nap at 9.30
Nap at 12.45
Nap at 3.45
Bed at 6/6.30

Now the past few days have been like this
Up at 7.30
Nap at 10.00
Nap at 1.00
Bed at 6

Does this sound right?

Today he had a nap and was awake at 1.30. At 4 I tried to put him down but he wouldn't have it. By 5.15 he was so tired, and I put him to bed knackered at 6.

I don't know what to do now

Hi hun. Omar used to nap every 2 hours. At around 7.5 months he dropped his 3rd nap & started to go for 2 naps. He still takes 2 naps but sometimes he drops his morning nap & goes for a longer nap after his lunch. xx

Thanks, can I ask when is his first, his last and bedtime? x

hey hon
Sophie still generally has 3 naps.
Her last one is generally about 5, but we dont start her bedtime routine til 7 and she goes to bed at about 7.30, so it never interferes with her bedtime.

Ella was still having 2 (or 3!?) naps a day for about 1.5 hours a time at 7 mths. He sounds like he is ready to drop his 3rd nap. When Ella dropped her extra nap, we did have to put her to bed very early at first, until she had adjusted.

He used to wake up at 11 am takes his 1st nap at around 1.30-2.00 pm for 1.5-2 hrs, his second nap at around 6 pm for 1-1.5 hrs & bedtime at 11 pm & sleeps for 12 hrs. xx

Maya is awake for around three hours between naps and she has two 1.5 hour naps a day. So our day goes like this:
wake up between 6 and 7am, usually closer to 6
nap from 9 til 10.30am
another nap from 1.30pm til 3pm
she starts to get sleepy at around 6 and goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm

They drop the late afternoon/third nap somewhere between 6 and 9 months. Your best bet is to attempt to get his body clock to want to sleep for longer than one sleep cycle. He'll finally manage it at some point and if his morning wake up time and night sleep aren't badly affected I think you should be fine! :flower:

I was just going to ask this. How can I get him to go 2 sleep cycles for both naps?

(After being awake from 1.30pm-6pm I was dreading last night, but he slept through as normal, phew)

Elle has just started exactly the same, used to be

Up at 7.30-8
Nap at 10
Nap at 1
Nap at 4.30
Bed at 730

Now is more like

Up at 7
Nap at 10
Nap at 1
Bed at 6.30-7

Well, The idea is that once their body clock is used to sleeping longer they do it naturally. I used to rock, sing and soothe LO to sleep after she woke after one cycle. I would also know exactly how long one cycle is (after having held her for one whole cycle (about 47 mins) which nearly broke my arms! :haha: She would;t be put down for many months!) so then I'd go in 5 mins before time was up and the moment she looked like she was coming round I'd pick her up and rock and sing her back to sleep again.

On the very odd occasion she'd protest so much and cry that I figured she wasn't sleepy and I was right as she wouldn't be grumpy afterwards.

After we sleep trained at 8 months though, she's just learnt to put herself back to sleep after one cycle although she'll have off days still.

How long is your LOs sleep cycle? :flower:

My LO usually goes 3hrs between naps (but back to 2hrs at the monad she's poorly)

She'd only sleep for an hour at a time though which is really annoying. So she'd do:

7am - wake
10-11am - nap
2-3pm - nap

And then we'd have to keep her awake until 7 and she was mega grumpy, or give her a cat nap at 5:30-6 and down to bed at 7:30/8pm but she wasn't really tired enough. Naps are the bane of my life!

She still wakes 2-4 times a night too

redpoppy - they are bang on 40 minutes each of them. I might try going to him at 38 minutes and waiting and just shushing him back
This morning he napped at 9.45 for 40 minutes, for an hour until 1.15 when the doorbell went and then grabbed 25 minutes at 4.00 and he woke up the moodiest grumpiest baby again.

I'll give it a go tomorrow.
Ideally I'd like him to nap at 2-3pm but his morning one I like at around 9.30 as most baby things happen in the morning. Humph, I suppose getting him sleeping at the right times is more important though

Ralphy has been doing roughly this since 7 months:

awake at 7am
nap 9.30-10am
nap 1-1.30pm
nap 4.30-5pm
bed 7pm

Would love him to do one big sleep in the day so i could get some cleaning done.... how boring and grown up is that?!

I would try and just make the second nap two cycles and then three if you feel he wakes not having been fully rested. I'm just saying that because that's what my LO was like but I have realised that doing things slowly with babies is better most times. :flower: My LO currently naps around 9:45 for the morning nap and then 2pm for the second one. :flower:

Kayden is almost 8months and he goes like this

up 5:30am
Nap for 10 mins around 9:30/10am
Then he naps for about 45minutes at about 12
He then naps ten mins again about 3:30pm
And goes to bed at 7:30

So he has 10hours solid sleep through the night and an hour and 10minutes ish in a day.. some day he wont have a mornin or afternoon 10mins but always has his 45min nap.. I put him upstairs in cot for this as downstairs he cant get chance with bigger ones pulling at him. He wakes himself after 40/50 minutes.
