I have a 7 week ultrasound scheduled and I can't stop thinking about it. At 7 weeks what should be / usually is visible? If nothing is visible does that mean no chance or could what should be there at 7 weeks appear at 8 weeks or later? The Doctor mentioned doing a measurement to get a better estimate on a due date at this appointment but Im pretty much certain of when I ovulated and probably even implanted. I am curious as to what it is hes measuring. Honestly I am a bit scared I will go in and things that are supposed to be happening in there wont be and the docs won't wait it out a bit to see if it appears later. I know total paranoia at this point. Thank you

At 7 weeks they should be able to see the embryo and a heartbeat with an internal (transvaginal) ultrasound, but don't freak out too much if they don't find the heartbeat at your scan - I've been told there are a lot of factors that can make it difficult to locate so early on.

As far as measurements, they measure from the embryo's crown (top of head) to rump (that should be self-explanatory lol). In early development there is a fairly predictable growth pattern so the length can be used to estimate gestational age.

Good luck! :)

Are you having an external or internal u/s? I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and having an internal :)

I believe it will be vaginal.
Im having mine in 15 days since Im just 5 weeks!

Im so excited :) I cannot wait to see our little peanut !

I guess I am just a little paranoid because my HCG levels started early but slow and than last beta they showed almost doubling and well within normal increase rate so the doctor said I should be fine. Yet I wonder if HCG starts slow if there is a connection to a slower start in the growth of the baby. If it would be possible to go in for a 7 week 1d ultrasound and see nothing yet like nothing at all? Im always trying to prepare myself :/ thank you

If you are absolutely certain of your dates and will definitely be 7 weeks by then, you should be able to see an embryo of about 1cm, a yolk sac, and gestational sac the right size for 7 weeks. An embryo over 5mm should have a visible heartbeat.
At 7 weeks they should be able to say if your pregnancy is viable or not. That means that if what they see isn't right, and you are sure of dates, it is not good.
That said, if you have a tilted uterus things may take longer to show up, and often people have a bad scan at 6-7 weeks and when they are rescanned it is ok. Before 8 weeks it is hard to be certain if a pregnancy is over or not.

Anyway, hopefully you will have an excellent scan and will not have anything at all to worry about!

Thank you :) I think I will just go in with the mindset it will be fine and if something seems off I will ask to wait at least one to two weeks I have no other signs of issues so I would think maybe it could hide for a week or two like with a tilted uterus :hugs:

I had my 7 week scan this morning. It was at an outpatient center so I won't know the details of it until I see my doc next as the tech couldn't say much. She did say she thinks I'm right on the money with my dates (doc thought I was further possibly.) She didn't seem to indicate anything was wrong. Saw the heartbeat at 139bpm and she said that's well within normal range (I believe she said 120-180.)

And a super close-up.

Hope you have as exciting of a scan as I did!

Those are beautiful pictures!!! My scan is on the 5th! I cant hardly wait! im driving myself crazy with the countdown!

I had an ultrasound today at 7w 1d. My baby measured 6w3d and had a heartbeat of 106, which I was told was normal (I had a FET on August 26th). I also had a scan last week at 6w 1d and the baby was measuring 4w 4d and had a heartbeat of 79. So, it grew almost two whole weeks in 7 days! Looks like our nugget is catching up. Good luck on your scan, I'm sure everything will be great!
