what time does your LO go to bed, wake up in the morning? Does you LO wake up in the night?

My LO used to sttn until she was 4months old and now im trying to get her to sleep in her cot without me feeding or rocking her to sleep.. I know I should have done this months ago! She arches her back, stands up, screams! Last night it took 1hour 5minutes for her to go to sleep and I checked in on her 14 times... think I checked too many times lol!

Maria goes to bed around 7 and gets up between 7 and 8. She wakes a lot still in the night but is starting to settle herself usually when she wakes up but sometimes she needs a feed still or she needs help settling.

Sam sttn from 7-14 weeks and since then has made no progress, in fact some weeks (ie: this one - please let it be teething!) is getting worse. He's 10 months but as nothing has changed since 8/9 months thought i'd reply :)

He's asleep by 8pm (used to feed to sleep but now although he has a bottle in his room he stops drinking while awake and is happy enough to be put down and falls asleep in seconds). He wakes up somewhere between 1 & 6 times a night. Usually most of those times are in the evening before we go to bed (or just when we're about to). He always wakes once between 3-6am and we bring him in with us and then he wakes up at 8am.

Its nice to see that im not the only one who brings LO in to sleep with them once they wake during the night. We are trying to stop that..

he goes to sleep about 7/8pm wakes at 2/3am comes into our bed, wakes again at 5am then wakes again at 7am to get up!

But she wakes up screaming everynight except for 7am! On the odd occasion that she has sttn in the last few months in her cot she has woken up happy playing i can hear her and that was soo nice to wake up to.. now i get woken up being prodded in the face and my hair pulled...I have a black eye because she tried to stand up a couple of mornings ago and elbowed me in the eye!!!

We started a routine at 7months and at 8/9months she was sleeping -

7pm -7am
9.30am-11am
2pm-3.30pm

xx

My LO has always been a terrible 45min napper and used to wake alot during the night (still does!) but i think most of the night wakings are due to her being over tired at bedtime due to the short naps.

But we're currently working on her day time naps after finding the babywhisper forum and reading alot about EASY and how long LOs awake time should be (turns out i'd been putting LO down for a nap too early) - after doing pu/pd, and her morning nap is now 1hr10-20mins. Yesterday it was a full 2 hours which was great! But are still struggling with the afternoon one. I'm hoping if we manage to get 2 good naps a day hopfully 2x 1.5hr naps she'll sleep alot better at night. :)

we tried the EASY routine.. worked okay for her day time naps cept some days she just wont go down for afternoon either, we just want to get night time sorted!

Naps are the key to night wakings hun. Fighting bedtime is either too much daytime sleep or more like not enough daytime sleep.

Is she eating solids well? The bulk of the diet should consist of solids now with milk as a supplement, could be waking from hunger.

xx

stardust.. LO eats plenty i think she has 3 meals a day snacks between meals and 3 milk feeds plus a night time feed but i think she is using me as a comforter rather than food.. maybe shes not getting enough naps.. they are very consistent anymore tbh

You need to be aiming for 2 naps a day of 1.5hours each or one long (2hours+) nap and 1 short nap with an 11-12 hour night. Some LOs need more and some LO's need less.

Naps should be roughly evenly spaced with the same amount of awake time between. Although the first morning nap might be after only 2-3hours awake.

So could be -

7am awake
9.30am-11am sleep
2.30-4pm sleep
7.30pm bed

6.30am awake
9.30am-11.45am sleep
3.15-4.00pm sleep
7.00pm sleep

6.30am awake
9.30-10.15am sleep
2.00-4.00pm sleep
7.00pm bed

You just have to find something that works and stick to it every day xx

My LO usually goes down for a nap 2 hours after she wakes in the morning but afternoon one is a struggle! Today she had am nap at 10.45-12.00 then pm 3.15-4.30

How do you make sure you LO sticks to napping though.. I really struggle for example Mondays Thursdays and Fridays I take my LO to playgroups that are 9.30-11.30 which is when she used to have a nap but with her crawling around she wants to play and interested in everything thats going on (I used to go just to have a natter with the other mums there and my 2 yr old brother goes, my LO used to sleep in her buggy or in my arms) now she naps after which means she has a later lunch.. I feel like everything is going downhill these last couple of months... obviously I cant stop going out otherwise I wouldnt get things done or see anybody and its important LO is around babies her own age.

my son had bad sleep for ages. was never great... the best i'd get was 2 wakes in the night. around 8-9 months it was dreadful. waking hourly. didn't want to be held but screamed if put down. often had him in with me but was taking hours to resettle. at 10 months i decided to bite the bullet and get him to learn to settle. 3 nights of controlled crying he was going down with only 1-2 minutes on whining and only waking once. a month on he goes down awake (but sleepy), turns over and goes to sleep. this is around 7pm. he then sleeps til 5-6am ish when i give him a bottle and he resettles for a hour or so.

i'm really relaxed on naps. as you say you'd be stuck indoors if you are strict on nap times. i found once the night times were sorted he sleeps better in the day. i have no daytime sleep routine. he just sleeps when he is tired... that might be in the car, pushchair or at home

Really???? No-one told me this! My LO is 8 and a half months and no way is most of her nutrition from food.

My HV told me milk is still the main part of your baby's diet till 12 months.. but I suppose every baby is different.. my LO has more solids than milk she wouldnt BF probably for about 2 months it was a struggle getting her to feed for more than 3-4 minutes at a time! Now she wont stop!!

I would find it really difficult to stick to a strict nap routine during the day.. I would never see the outside of my house if I was to stick to the same times every day! I just dont know how some Mums do it.. would love to know though!

Well. I started with consistent naps at the exact same time for 2 weeks until we got nights and naps sorted. Now I just adjust it slightly to suit her. So this week -

Monday
7am Wake, Milk, Breakfast
9am-10am Baby Swimming
10.30am-12 Sleeping
Lunch
1.30 - 2.30 Baby Group
Snack
3.00-4.00 Sleeping
Dinner
7.00 Milk, Bed

Tuesday
6.30am Wake, Milk, Breakfast
9.45am-11.15 Sleep
12.00 Lunch
1.30 - 2.30 Baby Group
By the time we were home it was 3pm and she was hyper from playing so I kept her up -
3.30 Snack
5.00 Dinner
6.00 Sleeping

Tomorrow we are going out for the afternoon so I'll push her morning nap out a bit so she lasts longer in the afternoon then has a catnap on the way home -

Wake 6.30am ish
Nap 10.45-12.15pm ish
12.30 Lunch, go out
Snack while out
4.15ish come home, nap in car for 20 mins
5.00 Dinner
7.00 Bed

Thursday we'll be at my Mums all day so she probably won't sleep and be very grumpy and restless at night so Friday we'll have a lazy day in and she can catch up on sleep ready for the weekend :)

xx

ohh I feel really stupid now I thought when you meant strict routine during the day you did naps at certain times like everyday nap at for example morning nap at 10.30 and that time would be everyday! My LO I have always tried to get her to nap at least 2 hours after she wakes because she wakes up different times on different days the naps would always be different but always 2 hours after.

If we go to my parents LO never naps.. theres so much to do there its as if she doesnt want to miss a thing and fights sleeping.. then gets ultra grumpy sleeps the journey home which is only 15mins but then never sleeps that night lol!

I find babies confusing.. theres too much information about and at the same time not enough lol!!!

Some babies (like my DS) just don't allow you to shape their schedule. They sleep when they want, and are awake when they want. I tried everything with Kenny and he always was a wake several times at night til a year old. It was terribly exhaustong. Even now, he sleeps well but doesn't require as much sleep as most kids his age. Hoping I am blessed with a sleeper this time around! Good luck.
