er i dont fkin think so :growlmad: went to the hospital to see my newborn nephew (born at 12pm today :cloud9:)and went with my dad and stepmum. she has only eer seen wyatt once and we got talking about his teeth, i said something along the lines of 'and dont i bloody know it when he bites me..' and she was like ' you're not STILL bfing him are you?!' when i said yes she went 'oh carly thats far too old hes 7 months now for goodness sake' i first pointed out that actually he is 8 months old and then pointed out i will be bfing him until he is at LEAST a year old. she started going on about how bad it is and i told her the WHO recommends at least 2 years bfing and you know what she said? 'thats for starving children in other countries, not here in essex' :o i was horrified! its really bugged me. obviously shes just ignorant but seriously?? to tell me hes way too old at 8 months!! grrr

I'd have been annoyed. It's really sad when breastfeeding is seen as unusual :hugs:

Congrats on your little nephew :flow: my sister had a little boy a few weeks ago and it's been lovely having little newborn cuddles... and handing him back to his mummy when he gets grumpy :haha: xx

Er what is he supposed to be eating? It would be v. unusual for an 8mnth old to be able to get all their nutrients from adult food, so are you supposed to switch to formula just cos he's not a starving refugee?!?!?

OMG Seriously, my inlaws don't think people should breastfeed...they were here and my mother in law says, ARE YOU GOING TO WHIP YOUR TIT OUT AND FEED HIM NOW!! Its like OK seriously it isn't like that... breast real purpose is to nurish your children, and you're being stupid!! When her son's girlfriend had her babies they were so against her trying to breastfeed that she wouldn't even try... I'm sorry but my first son couldn't breast feed so I pumped for 2 months with him until I had to go on meds that would be passed on so I couldn't do it anymore... well now This baby WILL breastfeed and he is doing great!! So SCREW the stupid people.... and I agree at least a year if not LONGER... Some breast feed until baby is like 4!! 8 months is NOTHING and is wonderful!! :)

Wtf? What a horrible attitude to BFing some people have! Really shocking. I can understand some people being funny if you're BFing a 4 year old in public, but an 8 month old baby?

You could always say that babies surely need just as many antibodies living in built up cities with lots of people and diseases around! Or tell her to mind her own business :)

thank you all. she works in the healthcare business too so thinks she knows eerything there is to know about everything (think she works with disabled ppl in a home)

i also hate it when ppl say thing like 'getting your tits out' makes it sound like im doing something obscene!

It's horrible, isn't it :hugs:

Did you read the heat comment about Natalie cassidy's milk drying up and they said she was sad because her baby couldn't have more 'bitty'. There are some truly shocking public opinions regarding BFing. No wonder rates are so low!

Arrghh how annoying..

Why are boobs seen as such sexual objects.. my breasts are for my baby.. :) The reason they were put there!!!

aw didnt hear the bitty comment, woulde annoyed me though! i just cant get my head around some ppls attitudes :nope:

It's almost laughable really. In a sense that people truly believe BFing stops being beneficial after a certain magical age. And it's different for everyone when that age might be. So because your son turned 8 months old a switch was flipped and BFing is no longer okay. It just makes no sense how some people's minds work. I'd love to see her reaction to me BFing my 2 year old.

I'd love to hear what she'd say to me still feeding at almost 15 months!! :dohh::haha:

You carry on as long as you and your LO want to. Don't let her make you feel like you should stop just because she has some stupid opinions. :growlmad:

'thats for starving children in other countries, not here in essex'

Didn't you know hun, us Essex girls are supposed to be getting spray tanned, gel nailed, hair bleached and out on the piss every night by 8 weeks after birth so we're letting the side down!

Yes I've been told phoebe is far too old for bf now and 'when am I going to put her on bottles' :dohh: I just try and let it go over my head now!

As long as mom & baby are happy doing so, why bother changing a good thing? We are over 7 months in and seems to be working out for the two of us so far.

My sister told me it was gross that I nursed my last dd past a year. She nurses her kids to exactly 12 months which is great, but I was bugged when she said that. I nursed my dd until 24 months(plan on doing the same with my new baby). When my dd was around 17 months she found out I was still nursing her and I said do you think it's weird? cuz she was acting all shocked. She said ''just gross''. I just ignore it. I have also had 2 friends ask why I would nurse that long.

8 weeks, thats far too long! 3 weeks tops surely? :haha: xx

I have had similar comments from my inlaws too. My dd is 12 months now and I am still breastfeeding her. I am going to carry on with it and try to let the comments go over my head. The worst one I've had was from my SIL. She told me it was unnatural to breastfeed and I shouldn't do it. Her three boys were all bottle fed.

What the hell?! It's what boobs are there for, for Gods sake. What a *insert narty word here* :growlmad:

Can you tell that to my 20 month old?? LOL!! You are doing amazing!! Just ignore those comments!!!! Keep on going mama!!
