Well the witch got me again and it's another short cycle (24 days) with a 9 day leutal phase, the 4th short cycle in a row since I came off the pill in April. Before I had my son I had 27/28 day cycle, I didn't track O or anything though.

Is it worth going to the GP to ask? Do I need progesterone? I was taking 100Mg vit B6 and B12 on top of the pregnacare conception vitamins this cycle but not religiously, is there anything else I can do? Will doctors take me seriously?

I think it depends on the doctor. I have heard some doctors don't even believe in a short lp. I have a short lp too- 10 days. Also doing the b6 to lengthen it.
I would say track it for another month or two and if nothing happens it wouldn't hurt making an appointment.

Has anyone had a GP prescribe anything for a leutal phase defect though?

If they were to prescribe something would it be progesterone? Is there any reason NOT to ask for progesterone?

I think you should talk to your doctor about taking progesterone. I had a 28-day cycle, so everything seemed normal. It was only after I started temping that I found out that I wasn't ovulating until CD 18-20, so my lp was only 7-10 days. I got lucky that my doc agreed that I had a lp defect, and I caught the egg on my very first cycle on progesterone. I just needed that extra few days to get the bean to stick.

Good luck!

I would consider seeing your doc. If you have several months of charts that you can show that you are Oing later that will help.

If you want other options: This last cycle I started taking Vitex (Gaia brand, I used other brands before and it did nothing) and 100mg B6 in conjunction with a B Complex vitamin and my 8 day LP became 11 days!!! It also moved my O from CD26 to CD16, thus shrinking my overall cycle length from 36-40 days down to 27. Made me much more normal!! I swear by the Gaia brand of Vitex. I have to buy it on Amazon though.

My dr wouldnt give me progesterone during luteal phase and mine was 9 days. They did give me progesterone as soon as we got a BFP, which I think is why this pregnancy stuck.
Unfortunately from what I've read, most GPs here don't believe it's a problem. Mine was 7 days one month and the GP who is supposedly the "fertility specialist" was like "that's not a problem"... really?!?!
Worth asking about, but except a no. They might do 7dpo bloods though and that might show a weak ovulation, so they might give something like clomid to boost it, which may in turn help with LP. It did for me

Oh my! That's rough! My cousin is a Nurse Practitioner and while fertility isn't her area I called her to ask if I should see my doctor when I realized my LP was only 8 days. She basically said she didn't think it was an issue, that "things change so quickly that 8 days is no problem" and not to bother my doctor until I'd been trying a year because the doctor prob won't see me anyway. She was very kind in saying it all, but it really disheartened me that she portrayed the general view of the doctors that a short LP isn't a problem when other research clearly shows it can be. And that's when I started going my own way for natural cures. :)

Just be warned that nothing natural worked for me. It's a medical issue. I know some ladies have success with b complex, but that just stopped me ovulating...

I've heard that from a few people! Last month I had a great amount of success with Gaia brand vitex and b6, but it took some experimenting. The first cycle with Vitex (Solaray brand) it jumped my cycle from 38 to 26 days, and since I usually O around 26-28 days I don't even know when I O'd that cycle because I wasn't watching (and FF didn't give me CH because my temps were everywhere). Second cycle with the same brand I added b6 only after O because I was afraid of it delaying O. That cycle stayed 36 days, but added 1 day to LP. Last cycle I changed to Gaia brand Vitex and added b6 all month (with a b complex because I had heard they work best together) and my O moved to CD16 instead, and I got an 11 day LP.

I know it doesn't work for everyone. :nope: I hope you can find something!

I know that I've been told you can get OTC progesterone cream. If this cycle doesn't work for me I'm going to do an at home hormone test (won't have insurance in the month of sept. bc changing jobs so it's cheaper for me to do at home) and look into that.

I tried soy isoflavones, vitex, b complex and b6. All of them just gave me anovulatory cycles.

I've heard progesterone cream can be helpful if you have a small progesterone deficiency, but it's not strong enough to counteract a severe one

Oh! :( And they won't give you anything?

They gave me clomid, which got me pregnant. Then after BFP they gave me progesterone as had a previous loss.
That was after 3 years ttc

Oh! Okay. I must have missed that. But still, 3 years ttc sounds .... awful. :nope:
