Hi do u have set times that your LO naps or do u just go by them? We still dont have no set routine for naps sometimes he will sleep for most of the day or he will hardly nap at all. Im wondering if its because I am BF on demand and we dont have not set feeding routine? He has slept through from around 5/6 weeks and he always settles well at night time when he goes to bed although at the moment he has an ear infection so nights are a bit hit or miss at moment. Thanks for reading

We have a rigid routine of nap times that he actually developed himself. Halfway through the morning nap I transfer him (swaddled) into the stroller and do a one hour dog walk. We sometimes do that for the afternoon nap as well.

5am: wakeup
7-8am: nap in swing
8am-9am: nap in stroller
12-2pm: nap
4-6pm: nap
8pm: bed
(1am,3-4am feeds)

He doesn't sleep through the night at all (last night up 5 times but usually only 2x - teething ugh).

We don't have a set feeding routine either. If I didn't actively try and get him to nap (took a very long time) then he wouldn't nap at all (no joke from 0-7 weeks, he did not sleep in the day) so perhaps you might want to try and get him to nap around certain times? If he's content though, he sounds happy with what you have.

Although with an ear infection it's hard to tell, that really messes them up! He had one at 2 weeks it was a nightmare.

Hi, I breast feed on demand and my LO's naps were also hit and miss at that age! He's now 5 1/2 mths and has set his own routine and his feeds have spaced to about 3 to 4 hourly. So he wakes 6 to 7 ish then naps for 45 mins hour and a half after he wakes. He'll then have a 45 min nap around 11am and a nap at 330ish which could be 45 mins or an hour and a half. He's never been a bit sleeper during the day. Good luck, x

Hi. He had his jabs last week too then he got an ear infection so been a bit of a nightmare this past week. Maybe i should wait until he is 100% then think about getting more of a routine in the day. Today he has hardly napped at all and is now grumps but im wondering if its cause his ear hurts. We got antibiotics so hopefully he will be better when he has finished the course. Thanks for your advice xxxx

Hi that sounds great 3 to 4 hourly feeds. I would like more of a routine during the day as I have a two year old as well xx

Oooh ya jabs + ear infection, that must be rough. I wouldn't worry at all right now either - just try and get through the week with some sanity!!!

Ha Ha. I will try. Thank you :dohh:

My baby is 12 weeks old and somedays he naps alot and other days hardly at all.

i have a fairly set routine which is 4-hourly feeds with 2hr naps in between.
At 9 weeks I was doing 3hourly feeds with 1.5hr naps in between, so feed, play for an hour or so (my LO feeds for 30mins) then nap for 1.5hrs.

As soon as I started this my LO started sleeping 8 hours + at night

so its not uncommon for them to only stay awake for 2-3 hrs then fall back asleep?? i kept getting worried haley was sleeping too much bc like you aliss, from 0-6 wks ish she stayed awake all day long, but since then she's been sleeping a lot

at that age Bobby was napping every 1.5 - 2 hours and normally only down for 30 - 45 minutes at a time. Their brains develop while they sleep - so they sleep a lot, especially during growth spurts.

8 months in and Bobby still has no set sleeping schedule - we've tried implementing routines and just end up with an overly cranky baby... so I let him decide lol

no not at all. babies that age need something like 16 hours of sleep a day or something (can't remember but there is a page somewhere that tells you) and the less sleep they get the crankier they are lol.

so if they are sleeping 8 hours at night they need another load in the day.

When Alex was awake all day, it was a combination of colic and me not understanding that he needed sleep. During the days he was awake the whole time, he was crying - the entire time. It was a combination of me, OH, and FIL holding him while he was crying (FIL could make him sleep, go figure).

A baby the same age as your LO should probably get in a good 6 hours of naps per day, or even 8-10!! Not including night time.
