I live in an apartment and have newish neighbors across the hall from me. Their LO is around 3/4 months and we have been having them over so the kids can interact and we can have dinner and movies and whatnot. Well they called me yesterday telling me that the rash their LO had has turned out to be Scabies. They advised us to get to a doctor and clean the house. Fair enough, but what irritates me is that last night the female half came over to fetch a plate of food I made up for them from dinner yesterday and told me that this isn't the first time their LO has had Scabies. That she has had them before and apparently never put the lotion the doctor gave them on her face or head, so I am going to assume that she had them the whole (short) time we have known them. I'm not really mad at them but part of me wonders if maybe they should have said something to me before? We have been to their apartment and vise versa. Every time I itch I'm scared to death that me and my family are infected with these things. Has anyone else had this problem? That their friends or family has 'shared' this lovely pest? Am I overacting? I've since ran around with a bleach solution to EVERYTHING and washed LOs toys and such. Washing every linen in the house is just not possible, I can not afford to go to the laundry mat anymore this month. Will that hinder the bleach solution? I even sprayed down the beds and blankets and hung them to air dry after.. I just feel so... dirty. :sad2:

Scabies don't affect the head or face, god knows why, so maybe that is why they didn't put the lotion on those areas - although I don't know whether you are supposed to. I work in a school where a number of pupils had it at different times and we never had to go through any special cleaning measures and it never became contagious.

The dermatologist they went to told her that she should have put it on their LOs face and head because she barely had any hair and told her to tell everyone they came in prolonged contact with. I guess they are giving her 9 tubes of this lotion just for her family alone and advised I do the same for my family. I have never, ever been in contact with anyone who has had Scabies, so I am not sure how to react to this.

EWWWWWW I don't think you can really catch it from objects more skin to skin contact, but good you washed everything anyway. I really hope you don't get it!!

my cousins had scabies and my mom watched my cousins LO who had it BAD..poor kid anyway... My mom lives down stairs from me she ended up getting it because she watches him day in and day out...I told the dr that we had been exposed and all she said was clean everything like you have been and keep an eye on your and your LO's skin folds (backs of knees toes groin area etc...) they dont treat unless you have it. It can be a vicious cycle because there is a 3 week incubation period...It is not something fun to deal with and gives me the creeps I was furious when it was brought into our home. If you dont have money for a full wash you can just dry on high heat that will kill the mites too. Good luck and I know how you feel, my mom and I are VERY clean and like I said we were furious about it being brought in here...

I just looked it up and the mites die after 48hrs away from human contact, so only very frequently shared objects pose a risk of transmission - eg face towels, but this is rare. Having them isn't anything to do with poor hygiene, it is just one of those things, like headlice, that children can be exposed to when they play together. It isn't anyone's fault if their LO gets it.

I know it has nothing to do with bad hygiene. I know they are clean and so is my house/family. I have OCD/Mysophobia, so in my case I might as well have the plague. :haha:

ewww, so sorry! hope you guys don't catch it!

on the note of a germophobe.. I don't consider myself one, but I saw a fly land on my son's EYEBALL a month ago and I freaked out! :haha:
He also reached out and pet the cat, only for her to turn and his hand to touch her butt.. uuugghhh, hand sanitizer!!!!
