Firstly just to explain the situation, Chloe arrived 7 weeks early and was in special care for 4 weeks, tube fed for nearly 3 weeks and bottle fed since then due to not being able to latch on, flat nipples, weak suck reflex etc etc.
Anyway, she has been home 2 weeks now and we were using the silicone teats and bottles from the special care unit. The problem I am having, and maybe its just me over-reacting but she starts off the feed well, strong sucks etc but towards the end, if she doesnt fall asleep first, she gets almost frenzied and milk dribbles out the side of her mouth, she screams sometimes but wont let me take out the bottle, it's almost like she's angry at the bottle for whatever reason. And sometimes she splutters and coughs a bit and usually spits out a little milk. She seems to hold in air and only let it back into the bottle in a big go, which I'm thinking then causes the rush of milk and then spluttering, leaking. Burping her is usually fine but putting her to bed after a feed at night shes very grumbly and although I can carry on trying to wind her, nothing comes up after the first few mins of winding, no matter however long I try for.
So at first I was thinking medium flow teats but as shes dribbling and leaking so much and the choke/coughing fit she sometimes has I'm thinking maybe not. Or whether to try the Dr Brown's bottles?
Any ideas ladies please?
xx
