During my first tri I had no problems with my acid reflux. If I missed one pill it wasnt a problem. Now starting off my second tri its gotten ten times worse. My doctor put me on a safer acid reflux pill for during my pregnancy and it works fine for a bit but I now find myself not able to sleep at night:cry: and I'm having a hard time tolorating anything. I tried sipping milk but milk bothers my stomach even more, tired tums but they didnt help. So now I dont know what to try. Part of my problem is that my doctor only works mondays and wednesdays and its truley hard to get an appointment with her. So if anyone has any ideas for me that would be amazing! :flower:

My dr. told me to take Zantec the pharmasist assured me it was okay. I only take one a day in the evening, it works well.

I have lovehearts before bedtime and they work.I was suffering really bad with it and i dont know if you had the same but i would get loads of saliva and just be spitting into a bowl all night, very annoying x

I take omeprazole. But I've had reflux my whole life. They tried me on ranitidine (zantac) first, but the gastroenterologist spoke to my obgyn and they decided omeprazole was a better option. I also take windeeze (gas med) to help with the pressure build up sometimes. It's completely safe because it isn't absorbed by the body.

My doctor told me to supplement with a liquid antacid if I needed, but fortunately it's been enough!

Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches. It will help you when you lay down to sleep at night. Also, eat smaller meals rather than large ones! Avoid if possible: coffee, citrus (including tomato sauce), spicy foods and too many raw vegetables that are gas producing (namely broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and brussel sprouts). The extra gas causes pressure in the stomach and food/acid can back up the esophagus.

Hope that helps!

I'm so sorry. I had the worst heartburn in first trimester, but I don't get it that much anymore. I took Zantac religiously, but that barely took the edge off. I hope it gets better soon mama.

i feel your pain!! i suffer from it even when not pregnant so i guess i'm lucky to have escaped it til now. today has been a bad day feeling bouts of nausea, hunger, the runs.. so glamourous. not mention the burning pain in my stomach... eeeuch

sorry i don't really have any remedies as am yet to find anything that really helps - but hope it passes real soon

x

Further to Stellagaze's post, my little girl lexie has been on Losec since she was 3 weeks old - so I am thinking it should be safe to take in pregnancy if it's safe for babies? Good luck with it xo

I took omeprazole before pregnancy because i have suffered with acid reflux for a long time. When i got pregnant my doc put me on ranitidine because she said it was safer. I take one tablet a day but still get awful reflux! I take gaviscon at bed time and use rennie's during the day, they dont taste very nice but they do help. I feel for you hun, its not nice :( x

I feel for you hun, I have a hiatus hernia and so suffer with reflux all the time and pregnancy just makes it worse! I don't take any tablets any more as I found that they would help for a period of time and then stop. But I do live on gaviscon advance (the prescription version), both the liquid and chewable tablets. I always have to have a swig of gaviscon when I wake up in the night! x

I have it too. It usually is only bad before bed though. I'm hoping it doesn't happen even more often.

MY Dr. recommended Zantac [twice daily], gaviscon and Maalox- However on the maalox bottle it says not to take while pregnant.

I take Gaviscon for mine. if it's just mild heartburn, I'll take 1tsp. of yellow mustard. :)

Thank you to everyone for the advice!!! I has been getting alot better with watching my food choices and raising my head as I sleep!:hugs:

I have horrible acid reflux too. I have it 24/7 pretty much. I started getting it around 12/13 weeks, but it was only on occasion and it was just at night. Now at 22 weeks I have it around the clock. I am always snacking on Tums and drinking milk. Unfortunately there's not too much that can be done about it. I don't even think my Dr prescribes stuff for it.

You don't need a prescription- there are things over the counter you can try.

Gaviscon is Dr recommended and safe to take while pregnant. So is Zantac [2x daily].

Tums don't really do squat. :/

My Dr also recommended Maalox- but right on the label it says do not take while pregnant or breastfeeding. :/

My doctor told me to take pepsid (twice a day). It worked for a while.
