I understand babies need a high fat diet so I am wondering if you add fat to your LOs solids, and if so, what fat?

I have a weaning book that suggests butter. I thought this would be an unhealthy choice so just wondering what others do.

Thanks!

I do. Here they recommend added fat in all baby food, but I never really see this recommendation elsewhere. Nothing wrong with butter! I think it has been wrongly villified. In my LO's foods I add butter (unsalted), olive oil, creme fraiche or full , 10% fat yogurt, and mashed avocado. I find that the only way my LO will eat veggies without added fruit (sugar) is if fat is added instead.

I don't add butter or oil to her foods, I'd never heard of that

Her diet is typically oats, yoghurt, fruit, vege, egg, cottage cheese, pasta, rice/risotto etc. and occasionally meat.

My LO is a FAT baby...I wonder what she'd look like if I added butter to all her food :haha:

It's funny how different the weaning recommendations are around the world. Thanks MiniKiwi x

I've never heard of that either and I don't add anything to LO's food. She's still mostly breastfed though so she gets plenty of healthy fats that way.

Niamh was not a big milk drinker so we were told to cook with olive oil, add milk and butter to mashed potato and other veg and put cheese in pasta.
