My son has an ear infection. Doca gave him antibiotics and ibruofen BUT they have to be taken on food. My son will not touch anything and his temps up at 39.3. Waiting on a call back from the nhs direct.

Can you give them the meds without food? /:

will he drink milk? the doc has told me that if i cant get my los to eat something then to try to give it with milk instead.

i was just told by nhs direct that the doctor was talking shite. he didnt need to have food to take the meds.
so i could of had 2 dosea of antibiotics and paracetamol down him by now.

im sooo annoyed

now i feel rubbish for not trusting my gut. i knew there was something wrong with what he said. cuz when he was admitted into hosp for 2 weeks he never ate and was constantly being pumped with antibios.

I'm sure it's not that your Dr was lying. Antibiotics are better absorbed on an empty stomach but your Dr was prob encouraging your LO to eat something if he could manage it so he didn't feel sick. I know I do sometimes on antibiotics

Anyway, it's good you got them into your LO in the end. His temp has prob come down a bit by now but if it's still on the high side I would suggest stripping him down to his vest for a while and give him plenty of cool water. Bless him. Hope you have a good night, it's not easy being awake all night with a poorly little one, poor you! xx

Just re -read and saw he has been prescribed Ibuprofen, this really should be taken with food if poss as it might make him sicky if empty stomach, that's what your Dr meant xx

Was just going to say exactly what Athena just said - Ibuprofen is best taken with food cause it can cause an upset stomach, but antibiotics usually aren't required to be taken with food.

That being said, if my kids are sick and won't eat I would just give them the AB's and Ibuprofen anyway and try and get an icypole and a bikkie into them. It's better than nothing.

i didnt give him the ibuprofen
i gave him paracetamol instead he refused any food. biscuits-yoghurts (not like him at all)
