okay 2 questions:

- Im currently using the Avent anti colic bottles but my lo is having quite a lot of problems settling. When im feeding him, I can see the air bubbles in the bottle and im never convinced that hes bringing all his wind up, no matter howlong I wind him for. 2 people have recommended the Dr brown bottles to me. Are these any good? What about the Tommee Tippee anti colic ones? Any advice on what bottles are best would be appreciated as I dont wanna go out and buy a lod of new bottles only to waste my money!

- Were currently using infacol, but now hes a month old, thought I would give gripe water a go. Is this any good, and can you use this along with infacol or is it one or the other? Does the gripe water go straight into the bottle?

xx

Hi there!

Bottles for colic - TBH I dont know that it makes a difference really. I BF but used to top up using the avent bottles. Even BF babies get colic, they can take air in from the corners of their mouths when they are feeding. I'm sure other ppl'll have advice on this though.

Gripe water is given using a spoon or a medicine dropper. The dropper is loads easier so I'd recommend getting one. I would use 1 or other. I tried everything with B but in the end the only thing which worked was being determined with winding her. It was hard going but she stopped getting colic much from about 7wks.

We have Tommee Tippee anti colic ones and they really seem to be working for us. My friend used them with her LO as well as her baby was really colicy and they really helped her too.

I dont have a clue about the gripe water sorry :( x

hi hun, I have several friends that used the Dr Brown bottles and they really rated them :D When Izzie had a touch of colic in the evenings, I never got round to changing her bottles as I usually gave her gripe water just before her evening bottle and this seemed to work wonders :) I would defo recommend it as it worked for Izzie and I found that Infacole didnt :) sad to say its all trial and error but its quite cheap so worth a shot - hope it works out :hugs:

I've used Dr Brown bottles, and I would really recommend them. They seem to be the best for colicky babies by quite a way. They are quite expensive, but you can buy them in small packs so you could just get a couple to start with and see what you think before paying out any more. Just so you're aware though, because of the way they are vented they can leak a bit if the milk is warm.

I would say to use either infacol or gripe water, I wouldn't use both at the same time. How easy it is to get gripe water in is going to depend on whether your LO likes it - being so watery it's pretty easy to spit out! Maybe you could also try some different winding positions - my favourite was a hand round the front and the other round the back and lift him up in the air!

TT Anto Colic nipples collapse and still see air bubbles in the bottle, by far Dr Browns are better IMO.

Tommee Tippee do 2 different types of anti colic bottles, if the normal ones with just a little valve in the teat dont do the trick then try their advance anti colic ones they have a tube that runs down the middle like the dr Brown ones but shop around a bit because the first time I saw them they were about £20 but the last few days iv seen them in different places for about £11 (just cant remember where)

with regards to giving gripe water you can mix it with water in a bottle and I'm pretty sure you can put it in with his milk :) will try and check the bottle shortly :D

The first few times you use gripe water, spread towels over you, baby and sofa/bed. It seems to have a 'massive boke' effect on babies :)

I can highly recommend the Dr Browns bottles. Way better than the advent ones!

We started out with the TT closer to nature anti colic bottles, but no joy our little one really was distressed, we then moved to Dr Browns and didn't look back, our little one found it much easier to latch on to the Dr brown teats.

We used infacol with every feed and would often have to give a double dose in the evening. (Something to watch out for the infacol did give our little one constipation.) When the wind and griping pain was really bad say 30 mins after the feed and we couldnt settle her we would use gripe water and within 5 mins she would have calmed and settled (after the gripe water we could hear her tummy gurgle and often she would burp.)

Was using TT bottles, but switched to Dr. Browns which r much better xx

I use the TT bottle but they didnt seem to do anything, tried infacol which was ok for awhile but the she got wise to it  and knew how to spit it out (either straight away or with her first mouth full of milk) She didnt seem to like gripe water either  . But I have changed her milk from SMA gold to the comfort milk for colic and constipation and this has really done the trick and I will never look back!! :happydance: xx

i used the tt anti colic ones to start with and actually returned them- they were useless in my opinion.
i now use the dr browns bottles and i love them. have really helped my little ones wind and colic problems.
i have only used infacol with soph so cant comment on gripe water.
she doesnt need anything using these bottles though :)
hope this helps
